The Glory (贵女) which is a period drama starring Chen Du Ling and Xin Yun Lai is rumored to be broadcast sometime in late March 2025 by Tencent’s WeTV. It is adapted from Qian Shan Cha Ke’s novel 重生之贵女难求 which literally translates as “The Reborn Noble Lady Is Hard To Find”. Qian Shan Cha Ke is also the author who gave us The Double which is a historical drama with a revenge plot. The Glory seems to carry a similar vein with suspense, revenge, family rivalry, and power struggles being part of the story.
The Leads
Chen Du Ling’s most recent drama was The Fangs Of Fortune which was aired in late 2024. This drama seemed to have enjoyed pretty good reviews overall. She has also appeared in the Republican drama, Love In Flames Of War, opposite Shawn Dou back in 2022. In The Glory, she plays Zhuang Han Yan, the third daughter of the Zhuang family.
Xin Yun Lai may not be as well-known especially to international audiences as he doesn’t have that many main roles in Chinese dramas to date. I have only watched one of his dramas, Mr. Honesty, although he started to have more lead roles in 2023. Xin Yun Lai portrays Fu Yun Xi in The Glory, a junior minister at the Dali Temple.
The other cast members who play supporting roles include He Hong Shan, Yu En Tai, Wen Zheng Rong, Wang Yan, Liu Xu Wei, and Jinna Fu.
The Story
Zhuang Han Yuan is an abandoned daughter of the Zhuang family. She has been framed as a child and left in the countryside. One day, she turns up at the family home with signs of being beaten. Her reappearance creates uneasiness in the Zhuang household and catches the eye of Fu Yun Xi who has his own reason for wanting her. From mutual suspicion and making use of each other, they develop true feelings between them. Together, they expose the corrupt villain with Zhuang Han Yuan rising from an unwanted child to become the capital’s noble lady through her wits and determination.
The novel that the drama is being adapted from has been released back in 2012. It has millions of readers and has been a bestseller. The Glory is also being directed by Yang Long whose projects include My Little Happiness and Sword And Fairy 1. The screenwriter is Cao Xiao Tian who gave us the very popular xianxia drama, Love Between Fairy And Devil.
