Douluo Continent (斗罗大陆) is a pretty hyped-up drama due to the presence of Sean Xiao and it also has high views overall. I’m going into this without knowing much details about the storyline. Neither am I a big fan of Sean Xiao. So, this is not a must-watch drama for me. However, it comes highly recommended by a friend and that is how I got started on this drama. After the first episode, I’m inclined to continue and let’s see how it goes from there. My Douluo Continent review will follow later.

Episode 1 – Martial Soul
Tang San is a village boy who keeps dreaming of a woman calling out to him ever since he started cultivating using the Xuan Tian Records. One day, he is attacked by a monster spider. He uses his skills to blind the spider’s eye with nails but it still chases after him. Tang San is saved by Su Yun Tao from the Martial Soul Hall. He is impressed by Tang San’s skills although the latter’s martial soul has yet to be awakened.
Su Yun Tao is conducting a martial soul awakening rite in the village. Tang San’s father stops his son from attending. He burns the Xuan Tian Records which Tang San has memorized and tells him to hide his skills. Su Yun Tao encourages Tang San to give the rite a try to find out his martial soul which is usually inherited. Tang San is curious about his mother as his father has never told him about her. However, the rite concludes that he has a useless Blue Silver Plant martial soul although he possesses a full soul power.
Su Yun Tao invites him to join the Nuoding School to become a Soul Master. Tang San’s father agrees to let him go on the condition that he will never join the Martial Soul Hall. He also wants him to master the Xuan Yu Hand forging skill before he leaves. Tang San also finds out through his father’s guidance that he possesses twin martial souls. One is the Blue Silver Plant while the other is the Hao Tian Hammer. His father tells him not to unleash the hammer except to protect the plant. The Hao Tian Hammer is meant to be a guardian. Tang San then leaves for the school but returns to get the nails.
Episode 2 – Newbie In School
Tang San is worried about his father who would be alone. But his father motivates him to be the strongest Soul Master. He will only tell Tang San about his mother once the latter has developed sufficient power. He also reminds his son to keep the Xuan Tian Records a secret.
Tang San arrives at Nuoding School. Liu Long is rude and looks down on Tang San due to his weak martial soul. Xiao Chen Yu is the Governor’s son and leader of the school’s martial club. He tells Liu Long not to be rude especially when they learn that Tang San has the Martial Soul Hall’s recommendation. Tang San lets them know that he has full soul power to justify his admission. This attracts the attention of the school’s handyman whom everyone addresses as Master.
Master is adamant that Tang San must have twin martial souls but the latter denies it. Master offers to guide him at the school. Later, Tang San argues with Xiao Chen Yu about killing rabbits as a training method to slay Soul Beasts. Tang San believes the strong should protect the weak rather than kill them.
Xiao Wu is also a new student and likes Tang San’s attitude. She is good at martial arts and defeats Wang Sheng to be the dorm’s leader. But she then gets transferred to the girls’ dorm. Wang Sheng subsequently cedes the leadership to Tang San when the latter pushes him away from a falling lamp. A blacksmith, Uncle San, is impressed with Tang San’s forging skills when he asks for a job.
Xiao Wu sneaks back to sleep next to Tang San at night. The next morning, Tang San helps her to braid her hair and tells her that his mother had died when he was a baby.
Episode 3 – Making Progress
Xiao Chen Yu wants to invite Xiao Wu for lunch. Xiao Wu declines with Tang San standing up for her. This causes Xiao Chen Yu to hate Tang San more. During a test, Liu Long snatches Wang Sheng’s answer and then lies to the teacher that it is the other way round. Tang San and Xiao Wu are angry at the blatant lie.
For a fighting lesson, Xiao Chen Yu picks Tang San to be his opponent to bully him but fails. When Xiao Chen Yu tries to attack him again, he gets beaten up instead before the teacher stops them. Together with Liu Long, they try to prank Tang San and Xiao Wu with gunpowder. But Tang San can sense their tricks with his skills and turns the tables on them. Liu Long suggests to Xiao Chen Yu another plan to exact revenge.
The teacher tells Tang San that his Blue Silver Plant martial soul is useless. Tang San then seeks guidance from Master. He learns that he can be a Controlling Soul Master as the flexible Blue Silver Plant can restrict an opponent’s movements. He just needs to have faith in it as the heart of faith is his martial soul. The plant is controllable and changeable. It requires little soul power to use and won’t repel the soul rings of other elements as it is weak.
Tang San is now able to grow his Blue Silver Plant but is still struggling to control it. Xiao Wu offers to train with him. She also tells him that she is joining the Soul Master Association leadership election. While at the market, Tang San earns money at the blacksmith to treat Xiao Wu. He also gives her a secret weapon. The Governor’s carriage passes by. His men bully the masses.
Episode 4 – Hunting For A Soul Beast
Xiao Chen Yu has brought forward the Soul Master Association election to get himself elected as the leader. He then releases a timetable for Tang San and Xiao Wu to make it tough for them at school. Wang Shen fears for them as he knows Xiao Chen Yu’s character. His own father works at the governor’s mine and they have been tortured before.
Tang San notices Liu Long and tails him. He sees Xiao Chen Yu killing a captured Soul Beast to absorb its white soul ring. Tang San informs Master who tells him that he too will need to get a soul ring if he wants to protect Xiao Wu from Xiao Chen Yu. Master is willing to help him because he wants Tang San to prove his theory.
Master’s martial soul is a mutant soul that forms outside his body. It is a dog named Luo San Pao. Master uses San Pao to con a dealer for an entry token into Soul Hunting Forest which is guarded by the Martial Soul Hall. Master tells Tang San that the older the Soul Beast killed, the greater would be the powers obtained. For a beginner, the beast should not be older than 423 years.
Master subsequently kills a Ghost Wolf but his martial soul has long been ruined that he can’t absorb soul rings anymore. Xiao Wu has secretly followed them into the forest. When a pack of Ghost Wolves attack them, Xiao Wu drags Tang San away from Master as she doesn’t trust him. They come across an injured Spotted Cat beast but don’t have the heart to kill it to get its soul ring.
Xiao Chen Yu and Liu Long also enter the forest to capture Tang San. They find him together with Xiao Wu.
Episode 5 – Rescuing Master
Xiao Chen Yu wants Tang San to hand over Xiao Wu. Tang San refuses. Master uses San Pao to lure out the Thorn Apple Snake beast. The snake attacks the group to enable Tang San and Xiao Wu to escape and reunite with Master. Master is confident that the 400-year-old snake would be most suitable for Tang San as his first soul ring. Xiao Wu is afraid that Master is making use of Tang San to prove his research due to their deal. But Tang San chooses to trust Master.
They return for the snake. Master is slightly poisoned during the fight. Tang San kills the beast. Xiao Chen Yu reappears with his men. Tang San absorbs the soul ring but feels disoriented from the effects. Master uses San Pao to help Tang San and Xiao Wu to escape. Xiao Chen Yu captures Master and gives Tang San a deadline to save him.
Tang San successfully absorbs the soul ring. He doesn’t want Xiao Wu to rescue Master due to the danger and they split up. Xiao Wu uses the Ghost Wolves to get her soul ring and insists on helping Tang San. Xiao Chen Yu orders a background check on them. He threatens Wang Sheng to lure Tang San and Xiao Wu to Master. During the rescue, an electrified cage traps Master and Xiao Wu.
Xiao Chen Yu tells Tang San that he wants to join the powerful Martial Soul Hall. He needs Tang San to introduce him to Su Yun Tao in exchange for freeing them. He also tells him that Xiao Wu has stolen someone else’s recommendation letter to enter the school. Tang San refuses to surrender. He uses his Blue Silver Plant to try to free them. He risks being electrocuted and ruining his martial soul.
Episode 6 – Second Soul Ring
Tang San manages to free his friends but his Blue Silver Plant is damaged. Xiao Chen Yu warns Tang San that he will capture his father. Master uses San Pao to emit a gas to make the enemies unconscious. He punches Xiao Chen Yu for his provocation before they leave. Wang Sheng kills Xiao Chen Yu thereafter.
Tang San rushes back to the village to check on his father together with Master and Xiao Wu. They couldn’t find him at home before he suddenly appears and informs them that they are now accused of murder. Xiao Wu follows Tang San to surrender to the village head to avoid creating trouble for everyone.
Master recognizes Tang San’s father who asks him to keep it from his son. Tang San’s father has been tailing his son and knows what happened. He tells Master that he will return to the city to settle the problem and asks him to help Tang San. He knows that Master’s family martial soul is the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon and San Pao is a result of a wrong mutation. Tang San’s mother has left him a 600-year-old Haunted Vine hidden under their house.
Ling Feng wants them killed as the Governor’s official. Master guides Tang San to use the Hunted Vine to kill Ling Feng with Xiao Wu’s assistance. Then, he helps Tang San to kill the Haunted Vine as the latter needs it urgently to revive his Blue Silver Plant. But he gets hit and faints. Tang San is in pain and trapped in a dream after killing the vine and absorbing the ring. Xiao Wu uses her powers to wake him up. They revive Master who asks Tang San to try out his new powers on him.
Episode 7 – Shi Lan Ke School
Tang San has gained the powers of the Haunted Vine and combining with his first soul skill, the vine has a numbing effect on enemies. Tang San’s father kills the Governor. The people celebrate his demise.
Tang San’s father quietly returns to talk to Master. He wants Master to take care of Tang San for him as he needs to leave. But Tang San senses his father is around and seeks him out. His father refuses to tell him their family secrets as they involve powerful individuals. He wants Tang San to chart his own path and become stronger first before he reappears. Tang San is advised to follow Master’s guidance. Tang San then formally acknowledges Master as his teacher. He and Xiao Wu also start to regard each other as siblings.
Master brings Tang San and Xiao Wu to Rose Inn in Suo Tuo City where Shi Lan Ke School holds admission exams. It is the only school left for them to learn to become Soul Masters after what happened in Nuoding. However, Shi Lan Ke is an unorthodox school. They are allowed to join the exam despite not having enough admission fees. Tang San’s honesty also earns him a crystal rock from the person-in-charge. He is interested in it because it contains a material to form powerful needle weapons. He learns this from the Xuan Tian Records and shares it with Xiao Wu since he now regards her as his sister.
While at the inn, they meet Dai Mu Bai and Ou Si Ke who seem to be workers. A lady wants to challenge Dai Mu Bai and ends up staying at the inn. At night, a man holds Ou Si Ke hostage. He claims to be the school’s enemy and so is everyone who joins it.
Episode 8 – Admission Exam
When the man kills Ou Si Ke, Xiao Wu and Tang San step forward together with the lady who wants to challenge Dai Mu Bai. But the man is a powerful Soul Master. When Xiao Wu is thrown and seems unconscious, Tang San gets fired up. He uses other moves including his Hao Tian Hammer to knock the man. But he is still rendered unconscious as the man is just too powerful.
When Xiao Wu wakes him up, the fight has ended. The man is Teacher Zhao Wu Ji and he didn’t kill Ou Si Ke. It is an act for their admission exam and he gives the 3 of them a pass. Dai Mu Bai questions Tang San about his moves but the latter brushes it off as merely tricks that he has learned. Later, Tang San tells Xiao Wu that he reflexively merged his Xuan Tian Strike with his martial soul during the fight but has no idea how he did it.
The lady insists on challenging Dai Mu Bai but the latter is too strong for her. Ou Si Ke convinces her to join the school. Hu Lie Na hands over money to Ou Si Ke. She wants to meet the Headmaster called Lander.
They are brought to a village. Shi Lan Ke is a poor but neutral school. Ou Si Ke loves playwriting. His imagination run wild when Lander meets privately with Hu Lie Na. Lander has captured Su Yun Tao and knows that they are from Martial Soul Hall. Hu Lie Na can help Lander to prevent his school’s license from being revoked in exchange for being an observer. Lander agrees and frees Su Yun Tao.
Tang San notices him and so did Master. They are curious about his presence. Master wants to meet him.
Episode 9 – Master Becomes A Teacher
Master has seen Su Yun Tao entered the city office before the Governor suddenly reversed his decision to target Shi Lan Ke. Su Yun Tao is the disciple of the Martial Soul Hall chief, Bi Bi Dong.
Master decides to meet Lander to ask for an explanation. It turns out that Master and Lander are old friends. Lander assures Master that he has no relationship with Martial Soul Hall. Hu Lie Na paid him to be an observer there. He also doesn’t know the other female student who is after Dai Mu Bai. Master is still worried and offers to be a teacher at the school. He finds out that Lander uses those admission fees to help the needy.
Dai Mu Bai is distrustful of Tang San after seeing his moves during the admission exam. Tang San takes up a blacksmith job to earn money. Dai Mu Bai is not happy to have a weak Master as teacher. He thinks learning theory is useless. Lander hopes to change his arrogant attitude.
There is a black monster sighting during a fire in Nightfire Village. Lander sends the students to investigate and tells them to treat it as an exam. Hu Lie Na follows the group as an observer. Dai Mu Bai regards himself as the team leader. The village chief denies the existence of any monster initially as he doesn’t want to spend money on investigators. Tang San is observant and notices strange things. The village chief has to admit there is indeed a monster under questioning. He tells them that a man has died in the fire but his son, Ma Hong Jun, survived. The group split up to look for the boy but Ou Si Ke prefers to stay back to write his script.
Episode 10 – Hunting For Monster
Tang San and Xiao Wu couldn’t find any new grave at the graveyard. He also finds it weird that there are many chickens in the village but no droppings are visible.
Hu Lie Na comes across Hong Jun and the monster. The boy runs away. Tang San and Xiao Wu notices her. Hu Lie Na emphasizes her observer status and hence, didn’t give chase. Dai Mu Bai is quarreling with the lady who is targeting him. They see Hong Jun but lost his trail at the village chief’s house. They fight again.
The chief claims that the boy could be afraid of them. Thus, they should leave soon. Lander is worried about the students. He knows there is a monster and hopes the students can lure it out so that he can capture it.
The village chief is hiding Hong Jun and feeding him medicine. He tells the boy that his father is no more human. Hu Lie Na tracks the monster to a door. Xiao Wu and Tang San overhear Dai Mu Bai quarreling with the lady who turns out to be his fiancee, Zhu Zhu Qing. She wants to break off their engagement which neither of them wants.
Hu Lie Na brings Dai Mu Bai to the door that she found. Xiao Wu and Tang San quietly follow them. The door opens to an alternate plain that mimics the village. Xiao Wu and Tang San find the both of them. Dai Mu Bai has fainted from the fight with the monster. When he awakens, he asks Ou Si Ke to use his martial soul to heal him.
They find Hong Jun but he seems stoned. Tang San surmises the monster must be a Soul Master based on its human form.
Episode 11 – Evil Phoenix
Tang San suspects that the fire is an accident and there is no monster to start with. Hong Jun admits that the so-called monster is his father. When he was woken up by the fire, his father has already changed form. The village chief was there and saved him.
Tang San promises to help him and his father. Together with Zhu Zhu Qing and Dai Mu Bai, the quartet enter the alternate plain. The village chief drugs Ou Si Ke to hold him hostage when he learns that they are close to the truth.
While they are fighting the monster, the village chief drags Hong Jun and the dazed Ou Si Ke away. Xiao Wu and Hu Lie Na tail them to the burnt house. The village chief encourages Hong Jun to enter the house. A Evil Phoenix martial soul is seen. After a while, Tang San stops the fight as the monster isn’t harming them. They arrive at the burnt down house.
The chief confirms that the village chickens are martial souls. The villagers are from the Evil Phoenix bloodline but they can’t be true Soul Masters without soul rings. So, he experimented with mutation on Hong Jun’s father who tried to stop him from doing the same to his son. His martial soul then suddenly started burning and he acquired the power to build alternate space.
The village chief orders Hong Jun to use his new powers to kill Tang San’s group. But Hong Jun’s father burns his martial soul and body to enter his son’s consciousness to let him to know the truth. Ma Hong Jun becomes angry at the village chief and becomes uncontrollable. Tang San and his group try to stop him but he is too powerful. Lander appears and subdues him.
Episode 12 – Ma Hong Jun Joins The School
According to Lander, Ma Hong Jun’s power comes from his father. His martial soul is now burning just like what happened to his father and it will be difficult to wake him up. Alternatively, they will have to kill him to avoid destruction to the village. Tang San refuses to give up on Ma Hong Jun. He braves the fire to get near to Ma Hong Jun and convinces him to wake up.
Then, they confront the village chief who claims that he got the mutation prescription from someone named Bu Le. Hu Lie Na is willing to pay a high price for it but Ma Hong Jun refuses to sell as it has caused great pain to his father. With nowhere to go, Lander agrees to accept Ma Hong Jun as a student. Master reminds Tang San and Xiao Wu to keep their distance from Hu Lie Na as she is from Martial Soul Hall after all although on the surface, she seems to be after Dai Mu Bai.
Ning Rong Rong from Qibao Amber Clan arrives at the school. Her father is Ning Feng Zhi who is the clan chief. He wants Lander to accept her daughter as a student. Ou SI Ke is besotted with Rong Rong. Hong Jun’s martial soul suddenly becomes uncontrollable. Dai Mu Bai hits him to make him unconscious. Master believes it is because of defects in the mutation.
Tang San encourages Hong Jun that he can learn to control his powers. He argues with Dai Mu Bai who always thinks that strength is the most important rather than truth. Lander knows Rong Rong has shirked her training. He reminds her that most of the students there are stronger than her when she is unrepentant.
Episode 13 – Soul Arena
Lander tells Rong Rong that she can leave if she can neither accept her weakness nor persevere. Rong Rong throws a tantrum. Ou Si Ke tries to cheer her up and is forced to show her his martial soul which he always feels embarrassed about.
Dai Mu Bai is going to the Soul Arena. Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Hong Jun want to join him as they could look for Bu Le there. They arrange for Hong Jun to fight in matches to lure Bu Le out. However, his lack of control over his martial soul results in injuries and damages which they have to pay up. Tian Ya reports to Bu Le that a mutant soul has emerged from Nightfire Village. But Bu Le wants to wait to gauge Hong Jun’s strength.
Lander sees Zhu Zhu Qing practicing hard although it is late at night. He advises her that winning over an enemy is not everything and to be clear about what she wants. News about Hong Jun’s exploits at the Soul Arena reaches Lander who is furious that they may be inviting trouble. Master thinks otherwise. He allows them to compete on the condition that they inform the school if they find Bu Le.
Lander orders Dai Mu Bai to train Hong Jun to control his flames. Master also offers some tips. Hong Jun refuses to give up despite getting hit repeatedly which Rong Rong finds hard to understand. After much hard work, Hong Jun succeeds but Bu Le has yet to show up. Dai Mu Bai thinks it could be because the opponents are weak and hence, they should fight each other in a match to attract attention. But Be Le notices Xiao Wu instead and wants Tian Ya to bring her to him.
Episode 14 – Xiao Wu Is Poisoned
Tang San and Xiao Wu defeat Tian Ya who leads them to Bu Le. Tang San demands for medicine for the Nightfire Villagers. Bu Le points to a compartment but Xiao Wu is poisoned when she opens it. Tang San demands for the antidote as he squeezes Bu Le with his vine. Bu Le tells them to take a letter to Star Forest and someone who has the antidote will show up.
Master and Lander decide they should all go to Star Forest together as it is a dangerous place. They also want to trick the smart Hu Lie Na to follow them. Hence, they tell the other students that the trip is to hunt for a soul ring for Ou Si Ke. Hu Lie Na suspects they have found Bu Le instead and follows them.
Master, Tang San, and Xiao Wu head to Star Forest earlier. Master pretends to have 7 soul rings to deter thugs. Tang San and Xiao Wu vow to protect each other even if one is hunted by Soul Masters. They wait for the person to show up. When Master hears that a group of students could be in danger, he leaves to check on them leaving Tang San and Xiao Wu alone. Thugs surround them. The man then appears and kills the thugs. He is Ye Zhi Qiu. He wants Tang San to break a bottle of poison in front of Du Gu Yan in exchange for the antidote.
Du Gu Yan will be hunting for a poisonous Soul Beast with 2 powerful Soul Masters. Master plans to have the group hunt for a Soul Beast for Ou Si Ke and is confident Du Gu Yan will follow them. While in the forest, Lander asks Ou Si Ke to show everyone his martial soul.
Episode 15 – Titan Giant Ape
Ou Si Ke is a Food Branch Soul Master with a chef appearance. With his 2 soul rings, he can provide sausages for quick recovery.
The revengeful monster spider that Tang San had blinded earlier is in the forest. Master could sense Su Yun Tao is nearby through San Pao. He falls back to look for him. He notices a smoky figure killing the man. Master follows the figure which meets up with a sea creature. The figure wants the creature to help him to defeat his enemy in return for a better future since the Soul Beasts are facing extinction.
The rest proceed and come across a serpent. They cooperate to capture it for Ou Si Ke’s third soul ring. Chao Tian Sang appears and argues with Lander over the serpent. She and her husband, Meng Shu, are powerful Soul Masters who are aligned to the Tian Dou royalty. Lander tells Ou Si Ke to quickly kill the beast and absorb the ring.
Chao Tian Sang reunites with her husband and their disciple, Yan Yan. The Titan Giant Ape appears before them but simply walks away. Ou Si Ke’s new power is the rocketing kiwi fruit which allows the eater to fly for a short period. Then, they bump into the ape and are easily overpowered. The ape runs off with Xiao Wu after throwing off Tang San who fainted.
When Tang San awakens, he slips away to look for Xiao Wu with the rocketing kiwi. He falls and breaks Ye Zhi Qiu’s poison bottle. The toxin smears his hand. The monster spider appears. He fights it with his Hao Tian Hammer. Most of the students want to look for Xiao Wu. Hu Lie Na thinks Rong Rong is crazy when she is tempted to follow Ou Si Ke.
Episode 16 – Tang San Becomes A Monster
Rong Rong decides that she couldn’t abandon her partners. Tang San has killed the spider. Master appears and stops him from absorbing the ring as it will be too powerful for him. Meng Shu and his wife also appear with Yan Yan whom Tang San recognizes as the person that Ye Zhi Qiu wants him to poison. Meng Shu wants the spider corpse as its blood will attract other poisonous beasts that will be suitable for Yan Yan. In return, he will capture another beast that is suitable for Tang San.
However, Tang San couldn’t wait as he wants to save Xiao Wu. He absorbs the soul ring and faints. Yan Yan holds his hand which has poison on it after the fall. Some green smoke is being transferred to Yan Yan’s hand but no effect is visible.
Xiao Wu and the ape, Er Ming, are friends. She has the power to absorb soul rings and obtains her third one from Er Ming. Tang San is now cocooned. When he breaks out of it, he has turned into a monster with spider legs or soul bones jutting from his body. Meng Shu is adamant he should be killed but Lander stops him. Master wants to destroy Tang San’s soul bones to save him but that will cause him to be unable to absorb anymore soul rings. He stops when Tang San calls out Xiao Wu’s name.
Xiao Wu Saves Tang San
Tang San finds Xiao Wu with Master and Lander following behind. Xiao Wu gets Er Ming to make them unconscious to keep her secret. She then absorbs the excess soul power from Tang San despite being stabbed by him. After successfully doing so, both of them fainted.
Rong Rong witnesses a lady beating Dai Mu Bai unconscious. She is Zhu Zhu Qing’s elder sister. She wants Zhu Zhu Qing to leave with her but the latter refuses. Then Meng Shu and his group show up. They head in the ape’s direction. Er Ming is gone. Tang San awakens and Meng Shu is shocked that he seems normal. But Tang San cannot remember what happened after absorbing the ring.
Tang San feels bad for hurting Xiao Wu. He has three soul rings now and Meng Shu thinks it doesn’t make sense. After they leave, Tang San recalls about the poison but couldn’t find them anymore. Master tells Tang San that Su Yun Tao is dead and the smoky figure has met with the King of the Star Forest, Azure Bull Python.
Hu Lie Na tries to hypnotize Dai Mu Bai to tell her about his family but is stopped by Zhu Zhu Qing. She insists that she is just interested in him but he warns her not to do it again. Tang San is looking for herbs for Xiao Wu and bumps into Ye Zhi Qiu.
Episode 17 – Tang San’s Father Is A Leader
Ye Zhi Qiu gives Tang San Xiao Wu’s antidote as he has succeeded in poisoning Yan Yan. He likes Tang San’s potential and asks him to consider joining his organization. Tang San is shocked that the leader is Tang Hao who is his father and the latter is involved in the mutation case. But to join the organization, Tang San has to win a battle at Xi Si City first.
Master advises Tang San not to believe everything he is told and to strengthen himself first before going to Xi Si City. He refuses to reveal more to keep his promise to Tang Hao. Tang San informs Hong Jun about his father’s potential involvement in the mutation case. Hong Jun chooses to trust Tang San.
Xiao Wu’s poison vanishes with the antidote but she is still unconscious as she has also been poisoned by Tang San when he stabbed her. Master tells him to use his Blue Silver Plant to absorb the poison from her wounds. Xiao Wu is cured.
Back at Suo Tuo City, Tang San and Hong Jun confront Bu Le. Hong Jun almost kills him to avenge his father’s death but ultimately lets him off. Tang San praises Hong Jun for his restraint. Dai Mu Bai has prepared a bath concoction to help Zhu Zhu Qing to force out the tracking worm her elder sister has planted in her. Zhu Zhu Qing is surprised by his effort.
Ye Zhi Qiu kills Bu Le as the latter has attracted attention of the Martial Soul Hall. Master begins to strengthen up the students through their diet and training. Tang San and Ou Si Ke are curious how Xiao Wu could have new soul rings but she makes light of them. She can now make people dizzy and teleport.
Episode 18 – Dai Wei Shi’s Challenge
Master asks the students to carry rocks up a mountain. The strength training is to lengthen the duration of their soul power and inculcate the value of teamwork. Dai Mu Bai is determined and willingly helps out the weaker team members. Tang San is surprised by his change of attitude. Dai Mu Bai tells Tang San that he has been impressed by his willpower while at Star Forest. The students successfully completed the mountain course.
Tang San dreams of someone calling out to him again. Hu Lie Na hypnotizes Dai Mu Bai again as she claims to like him and wants to know his secrets. She is stopped by his elder brother, Dai Wei Shi. She controls Dai Mu Bai to fight off Dai Wei Shi but is unsuccessful. Dai Mu Bai awakens from the hypnosis when he hits the ground. He notices his brother. The 2 of them don’t get along. The elder brother thinks the younger is useless.
Tang San joins the fight and sends off a signal for help. Lander arrives to stop Dai Wei Shi who issues a challenge for the students to fight him in 5 days. If he wins, Dai Mu Bai will have to follow him back.
Hu Lie Na denies having a hypnosis tool and insists she didn’t hypnotize Dai Mu Bai on purpose. She offers to help them with the challenge but Master tells her that the team doesn’t need someone untrustworthy. He also informs her about Su Yun Tao’s death. Bi Bi Dong sends another officer to watch over Hu Lie Na.
Master comes up with unique training for the students for the upcoming challenge. He just wants them to discover their own flaws and make improvisations. He also encourages Ou Si Ke who thinks his martial soul is useless.
Episode 19 – Training For The Challenge
Master teaches Ou Si Ke and Rong Rong that they can fight too by using Ou Si Ke’s stage play props as combat tools. The rest of the students are discovering their weaknesses and how to overcome them together.
Tang San notices a wind chime at the blacksmith and recalls his father. Lander thinks Hong Jun will defeat Ou Si Ke and Rong Rong in a match. Master disagrees. With cooperation, their students can cover each other’s shortcomings and become invincible as a team.
Master advises Tang San not to lose his self-confidence. He relates his own failure in achieving a breakthrough for his mutated martial soul. He left his clan and joined the Martial Soul Hall to research on mutant soul before circumstances forced him to leave. Ou Si Ke is quietly jotting down Master’s story.
Xiao Wu and Hong Jun trade herbs for the blacksmith’s wind chime for Tang San. Hong Jun explains they have made a loss and how they could profit from selling herbs. Lander likes his business mind and accepts him as his direct disciple. Tang San is delighted with Xiao Wu’s gift. Master reminds Tang San to learn from his mistake in Star Forest and to keep calm at all times.
Ou Si Ke and Rong Rong defeat Hong Jun in a friendly match. Master wants Tang San to be the lead tactician against Dai Wei Shi but Dai Mu Bai wants to be the sole commander. Master quietly tells Tang San to come up with a counter strategy in case Dai Mu Bai’s command fails.
Hu Lie Na meets up with Su Yun Tao’s replacement. She wants to continue investigating the mutant soul case. She also asks him to kill Dai Wei Shi. A fight ensues before he appears for the students’ challenge.
Episode 20 – Dai Mu Bai’s Identity
Dai Mu Bai is injured from the fight with the Martial Soul Hall officer but remains confident. Tang San offers him Ou Si Ke’s recovery sausage but he rejects it. Dai Mu Bai leaves out Ou Si Ke and Rong Rong and insists on attacking his brother although it is useless. Dai Wei Shi is too powerful.
Tang San asks Rong Rong and Ou Si Ke join the fight with their props to distract Dai Wei Shi. Xiao Wu then kicks him out of the arena to make him lose. He tells them to meet again in the Soul Master school contest. Dai Mu Bai learns that he cannot rely on power alone to win and each branch has its strength. He wants the cede the command to Tang San who insists that he remains as their leader.
Yu Tian Heng witnesses the match with Yan Yan. They are from Tian Dou Imperial School. He wants Dai Mu Bai and Tang San to join their school and represent Tian Dou Empire against Xing Luo Empire in the Soul Master school contest. Tang San declines but Dai Mu Bai is tempted to challenge his brother.
Rong Rong and Zhu Zhu Qing try to tell Xiao Wu that her relationship with Tang San is more than siblings but she remains clueless. Zhu Zhu Qing denies that she has feelings for Dai Mu Bai.
Dai Mu Bai reveals to Tang San that he is a prince from Xing Luo Empire but is unrecognized compared to his brother. This motivates him to be strong. Tang San tells him that he is already strong as Zhu Zhu Qing doesn’t look down on him. He assures him of his continued support.
Lander seems to have made up his mind about the contest.
Episode 21 – Arriving At Xi Si City
Yan Yan mentions to Yu Tian Heng that Tang San has enquired about Ye Zhi Qiu from Cang Hui School. They assume that the school is also recruiting members. Tang San and Dai Mu Bai confront them about their offer. They find out that the Crown Prince of Tian Dou is involved and is willing to support Dai Mu Bai against his brother for the throne. Hu Lie Na is listening in to their conversation.
Yan Yan faints from being poisoned. Yu Tian Heng urgently takes her to the capital for treatment. Lander decides that Tang San and Dai Mu Bai should join Tian Dou and enter the Soul Master school contest. The whole team travel to the capital together. They will pass by Xi Si City. Tang San tells Master that he wants to enter the Fiend Battle Team challenge there as mentioned by Ye Zhi Qiu. He asks Master to keep it a secret.
During the journey, some Soul Masters are found dead in the desert. In Xi Si City, they find some Sand Beasts living harmoniously with humans for mutual benefit. Xiao Wu wishes that all Soul Beasts and humans could co-exist. The Crown Prince’s messenger informs a disinterested Dai Mu Bai that the Crown Prince would meet him in Tian Dou City. Hu Lie Na secretly hypnotizes the messenger to find out the Crown Prince’s plan but he doesn’t know much.
Tang San and Xiao Wu learn from the locals that the Fiend Battle Team challenge is forced upon the Soul Masters who are mostly killed. They then bump into Wang Sheng who admits killing Xiao Chen Yu. Tang San learns from Wang Sheng that his martial soul mutated during a competition and he was then invited to join the Fiend Battle Team.
Episode 22 – Sandstorm
Tang San argues with Wang Sheng over his team’s cruelty towards the people. Wang Sheng tells him to stop his disagreement to avoid trouble and he must attend the challenge to ensure his schoolmates’ safety given that he is personally recommended by Ye Zhi Qiu.
Tang San asks his schoolmates to leave for Tian Dou City while he stays back. They are sad over the separation. Master and Xiao Wu insist on staying with him. Tang San tells Xiao Wu the challenge offers him a chance to meet the leader who could be his father.
Before Lander and his students could leave the city, a sandstorm causes havoc. They got separated. Ou Si Ke and Hong Jun are hiding from a Sand Beast. Hong Jun panics and starts attacking the beast wildly which angers it more. Ou Si Ke distracts the beast and drags Hong Jun away to save themselves.
Dai Mu Bai saves Rong Rong but ventures into the storm again to look for Zhu Zhu Qing who has to save him instead. She gets slightly injured. Rong Rong helps them to safety.
Tang San saves Hu Lie Na while looking for Master with Xiao Wu. He declines her offer to repay him. They make it back to the inn and find the Crown Prince’s messenger, Ma Xiu Nuo, there. Xiu Nuo has ignorantly captured a Sand Beast cub which is why the mother beast has created the sandstorm.
Wang Sheng arrives at the inn with his captain, Meng Li. They find Xiu Nuo and want to kill him when they learn he is the Crown Prince’s subordinate. Meng Li wants Xiu Nuo to take the cub back to the mother which is suicidal. Tang San offers to do it instead to stop the sandstorm. Xiao Wu follows him.
Episode 23 – Challenging Meng Li
Tang San and Xiao Wu release the Sand Beast cub back to its mother. The beasts leave and the sandstorm stops. They also reunite with Ou Si Ke and Hong Jun. Meng Li acknowledges Tang San’s potential. He doesn’t need him to enter the arena now but only wants him to kill Xiu Nuo in order to join them. Tang San would rather not join their team. Meng Li kills Xiu Nuo then. Tang San can’t stand their cruelty and challenges Meng Li to a fight to save the city from their tyranny. Meng Li accepts.
Master and Lander return to the inn with the rest. They find out what happened from Ou Si Ke and Hong Jun. Tang San has no idea if his father is involved but vows to stop him if he is. The people are supportive of Tang San. Master purposely tells the rest of the students that only Tang San needs to face Meng Li’s powerful team which is a suicidal mission. Dai Mu Bai quietly wants to help Tang San together with Hong Jun. Zhu Zhu Qing wants to join them.
Tang San forges a few secret weapons. He asks Xiao Wu to pass the weapons to their teammates for the Soul Master school contest in case anything happens to him. But everyone wants to stand with him for the fight against Meng Li. He teaches them how to use the secret weapons and when to launch them. Before they set out for the fight, Hu Lie Na tries to stop Tang San who refuses to listen to her.
Meng Li offers Tang San a last chance to join his side before the fight begins. Tang San declines. The fight starts and Tang San’s team is losing.
Episode 24 – Winning For The People
Meng Li and his teammates are too powerful for Tang San and gang and could overcome their attacks. Tang San’s teammates are also getting beaten up. As Meng Li’s team goes in for the kill, Tang San gives an order to launch their secret weapons. Meng Li’s team is taken by surprise as Tang San releases fire balls to defeat them. The people celebrate their win.
Hu Lie Na is sitting beside Dai Mu Bai who pretends to be asleep. He could sense that she is treating him like a prey. Tang San thinks that she likes Dai Mu Bai but she tells Tang San that she might have chosen him instead if not for Martial Soul Hall. It leaves him confused.
Ye Zhi Qiu seeks out Tang San and congratulates him for the win. Tang San tells him that he didn’t do it to pass his test. He knows Ye Zhi Qiu has manipulated Meng Li and his men to get them to take the drugs that turn them into mutant souls to achieve his goals. Ye Zhi Qiu tells Tang San that he is just following headquarter’s orders and so must Tang San if he doesn’t want to die like Bu Le. Tang San must reach the final of the Soul Master school contest before he can meet the leader.
Tang San is uneasy after the meeting. Master tells him to discuss further when they reach Tian Dou City. Ye Zhi Qiu kills Meng Li and his men as they have outlived their usefulness. Wang Sheng finds out too late that they have been lied to.
Lander and his group arrive at Tian Dou Imperial School. Xue Beng questions their credentials and is dissatisfied with Yu Tian Heng’s recommendation. They are amazed at the size of the school.
Episode 25 – Meeting The Crown Prince
Dai Mu Bai and Tang San are not willing to quit Shi Lan Ke School to join Tian Dou just to enter the contest. The school’s chief, Meng Shen Ji, is not willing to bend the rules. The Crown Prince suggests the school accepts them temporarily for the contest and releases them once it is over. The chief agrees. The Crown Prince wants to support Dai Mu Bai so that Xing Luo Empire will have a less dominant heir to reduce disputes between the 2 states.
Tang San asks the Crown Prince about the person behind Cang Hui School. The Crown Prince only heard that it is the Hao Tian Soul Master and he has gone missing. He then asks Hu Lie Na about Martial Soul Hall’s intention in organizing the Soul Master school contest. She gives him a standard answer. The Crown Prince doesn’t like Martial Soul Hall’s power and wants any other school to be the champion.
Lanba School
The finalist of the contest will meet the team from Xing Luo Empire. Dai Mu Bai tells Tang San that they will need to increase their soul rings to defeat his brother. Xue Beng picks a fight with the Shi Lan Ke students and gets beaten up by Xiao Wu. Prince Xue Xing wants them removed. The Crown Prince disagrees with his uncle. While they are arguing, a powerful Soul Master, Du Gu Bo, turns up. He wants to take Tang San away but agrees to return for him another day when the Crown Prince makes a plea.
The Crown Prince tells the Shi Lan Ke group that Du Gu Bo is the state’s secret weapon and Yan Yan’s grandfather. Given the situation, the Crown Prince asks Yu Tian Heng to bring them to Lanba School instead to try to see if they could compete under their name. However, Lanba School is a downtrodden school with no more students. The chief turns out to be Liu Er Long who is an old friend of Master and Lander.
Er Long seems to be besotted with Master who is uncomfortable. Lander tells his students that the 3 of them used to be a formidable team.
Episode 26 – Du Gu Bo Captures Tang San
Master and Er Long are from the same tribe. She loved him but he subsequently had a relationship with Bi Bi Dong and the team was disbanded. Er Long agrees to allow the students to contest under Lanba. She also decides to change the school name to Shi Lan Ke and let Lander to become the headmaster.
Hu Lie Na meets with the Crown Prince who has ordered a check on her. He knows the real Hu Lie Na has died. She admits that she is Qian Ren Xue, Bi Bi Dong’s daughter. Her mission in Shi Lan Ke School is to replace Dai Mu Bai. Despite being handcuffed, Qian Ren Xue easily hypnotizes the Crown Prince and changes herself to take his appearance. Her mother has lent her her powers for the mission.
Er Long is not able to register for the contest as the school owes Tian Dou Empire money. Ou Si Ke stages a play to raise funds. Tang San suddenly disappears while following Rong Rong to meet her clan members to discuss his secret weapon. Lander thinks Du Gu Bo could be the culprit.
Cang Hui School
Tang San awakens to find Du Gu Bo has captured him due to Yan Yan’s poisoning. Tang San tells him about Ye Zhi Qiu and that he is immune to poison. Du Gu Bo is a Venom Soul Master and even he has no cure for Yan Yan. Tang San proposes that they cooperate as he wants to investigate Cang Hui School.
Xiao Wu tries to fight her way into Tian Dou Imperial School to look for Tang San. She is defeated and Prince Xue Xing orders that she be hung up the school entrance. Lander saves her which angers the prince.
Du Gu Bo’s pendant is warning him that the toxins in his body are getting out of control when they near Cang Hui School. He has injected Yan Yan’s blood into himself to feel the poison’s essence for a cure. Du Gu Bo suspects that he is the actual target and Tang San is lured to Tian Dou City to tell him the truth. Tang San offers to approach the school alone. When he arrives, Ye Zhi Qiu let him meet his leader. But the man who appears is not his father.
Episode 27 – Treating Yan Yan
The man is Shi Nian who is a teacher of the school. Tang San can only meet the Hao Tian Soul Master after reaching the final of the contest. Only then, he would be of use to them. Shi Nian controls Tang San’s mind and asks him about Du Gu Bo. He wants Du Gu Bo’s cooperation in exchange for removing the poison.
After leaving the school, a voice is calling out to Tang San. Shi Nian’s mind control is broken but Tang San has no idea whose voice has helped him. Yu Tian Heng reports to the Crown Prince that Prince Xue Xing is going after Shi Lan Ke School. But Qian Ren Xue is acting as the Crown Prince and declines to intervene.
Tang San will exchange his blood for Yan Yan’s blood since he is immune to poisons. He can do it through his Blue Silver Plant vines. In return, he wants Du Gu Bo to give him money to pay off the school’s debt and help him to capture Shi Nian. Du Gu Bo agrees. Tang San also wants to return to the school first to report on his whereabouts.
When they arrive, Prince Xue Xing is there with Hu Tian Heng who is fighting with Dai Mu Bai. If the latter loses, they will have to hand over Xiao Wu. Du Gu Bo passes some of his power to Tang San who easily defeats Hu Tian Heng. Thus, Xiao Wu is saved. Tang San tells Lander and Xiao Wu that he is going to do a blood transfusion with Yan Yan. Xiao Wu insists on following him.
Blood Transfusion
When Master finds out, he is afraid that Tang San will die as he wouldn’t have enough soul power to complete the transfusion. Together with Lander and Er Long, they find their way to Du Gu Bo’s cave. Du Gu Bo comes out to fight them off. A battle ensues.
Tang San is struggling to complete the transfusion and could die. Xiao Wu transfers all her soul power to him to enable him to finish the task. She then faints. Master shields Er Long from Du Gu Bo’s strike. Before the strike could reach him, Tang San appears and asks them to stop. The blood transfusion is complete.
Tang San asks his teachers to leave first. Er Long is happy that Master has protected her bu he embarrassed to admit it. Tang San goes back to Xiao Wu who has now lost her ability to absorb soul power as she can’t form a soul ring anymore. Tang San then tells Du Gu Bo that he will detoxify him next.
Episode 28 – Tang San’s Mother’s Creation
Du Gu Bo tells Tang San that it is enough that he has saved Yan Yan. He doesn’t need Tang San to risk his life for him. However, he fails to keep his promises as he has no money to give him. Neither is it possible for Shi Nian to control the mind of the Hao Tian Soul Master. Hence, it is pointless to capture him. To make up for his broken promises, he brings Tang San and Xiao Wu to Dream Valley which is full of herbs that they could pluck and sell. In the valley also lies a barrier which even Du Gu Bo has never managed to enter.
A voice calls out to Tang San to use his Blue Silver Plant to enter. Tang San is holding Xiao Wu’s hand and together they cross the barrier. Inside is an interspace that has appeared in Tang San’s dream before. it is full of premium herbs. A ring of light appears. Xiao Wu touches it and falls asleep. A voice speaks to Tang San. He recognizes it as the one in his dream.
The voice tells Tang San that she is his mother. She would not reveal her identity to him yet as he isn’t ready. His father will tell him that later. But his mother relates that she was killed by Chief Qian Xun Ji of Martial Soul Hall. This is because she had developed another way of training which was written in the Xuan Tian Records that doesn’t require martial souls. If the method succeeds, Martial Soul Hall will become useless. Before she dies, she used up all her soul power to create the interspace for Tang San. Nobody could enter except him.
His Mother’s Advice
Tang San’s mother advises him not to blinded by hatred but to chart a new future whereby Soul Masters don’t have to rely on martial souls. She also hopes Tang San’s father will not lose his humanity because of hatred. Before the light ring disappears, it leaves him with a flower and spring pool. His mother had hidden all her soul power in the flower which feeds on love. But as Tang San is holding Xiao Wu’s hand, the flower’s effects flow into Xiao Wu. The spring pool would allow him to absorb a Soul Beast that is beyond his capacity.
When Xiao Wu awakens, she has miraculously got back her soul power and soul rings. Tang San tells him to keep the flower with her. They collect some premium herbs before leaving the interspace. Yan Yan is pestering her grandfather to look for Tang San and Xiao Wu by lying to him that Tang San is her future husband. Xiao Wu is jealous when they return to the cave. Yan Yan assures her that she is only joking.
Tang San gives Du Gu Bo a premium herb that could detoxify his poison. In return, he wants Du Gu Bo to help him to get to the final of the contest. He also has herbs for his schoolmates and teachers. Master is suspicious. Tang San tells him about the interspace and what his mother had told him. He becomes enraged about Martial Soul Hall. Master tells him that Chief Qian Xun Ji has already died and not to let hatred consumes him. Tang San recalls his mother’s same advice.
Episode 29 – Rong Rong Is Confined
Tang San wants to go after the people who killed his mother but he will not harm the innocent. He asks Master to tell him about his parents. Master reveals that Tang San’s father was once Chief Qian Xun Ji’s right-hand man and his idol. He followed him to serve under Martial Soul Hall and researched on mutated martial soul. When his father left Martial Soul Hall, Chief Qian Xun Ji went after him. Tang San’s father was defeated and disappeared. Master also left and the research terminated. When Qian Xun Ji died, his wife Bi Bi Dong, took over the leadership.
When the Nightfire Village case came up, Master thought the Martial Soul Hall could be involved until he discovered that Hu Lie Na was also investigating the mutant soul drug. Tang San tells Master that the mastermind behind it could be his father. If he is using the drug to manipulate Soul Masters to work for him, they could revolt against Martial Soul Hall and it would be a disaster. Hence, Tang San wants to reach the final and stop his father. Master supports him.
Xiao Wu tells Rong Rong and Zhu Zhu Qing that she is unhappy as Yan Yan has said that she likes Tang San although it is only a joke. But Xiao Wu doesn’t know if she really likes him herself. Rong Rong and Zhu Zhu Qing advise her to kiss Tang San to find out her own feelings for him.
Rong Rong’s Father
Master manages to increase his soul power with Tang San’s premium herb. Du Gu Bo will help Tang San to stop his saboteurs for the contest. Tang San also wants Du Gu Bo to pretend he is still poisoned so that Cang Hui School will not come up with new tricks against them.
Xiao Wu tries to kiss Tang San but keeps getting interrupted by others. Rong Rong is captured by her own clan elder, Grandpa Sword, under her father’s orders. Her father doesn’t want her to join the contest as someone has bribed them to sabotage the finalist. They will help Rong Rong to mutate her martial soul to be stronger as payment. Rong Rong then surprises her father with her upgraded martial soul that she has achieved through Tang San’s herb.
Lander wants Tang San and Xiao Wu to auction off the premium herbs to get money to repay the school’s debt so that they can then register for the contest. But Prince Xue Xing has given orders for people not to bid for them. Rong Rong’s father shows up to buy them at the last minute.
Rong Rong is locked up as her father still doesn’t want her to join the contest for safety reasons. She keeps nagging Grandpa Sword to let her out. Ou Si Ke turns up and sees her signal. He gets her out of her room but faces attacks from Grandpa Sword. He puts up a white flag after getting beaten repeatedly to Rong Rong’s annoyance.
Episode 30 – Increasing Their Soul Rings
Ou Si Ke pretends to surrender. Then, he uses his rocketing kiwi and flies away with Rong Rong who quietly thanks him. But he assumes Rong Rong is mad at him.
Ning Feng Zhi pays Tang San for the herbs. He also thanks him for helping Rong Rong to upgrade her martial soul. But he wouldn’t allow her to return to Shi Lan Ke School. With the money, the school could register for the competition. Prince Xue Xing has arranged for his man, Tai Long, to fight Shi Lan Ke in the first round.
Ou Si Ke and Rong Rong return to the school. He finds out that the powerful Grandpa Sword was just toying with him. Grandpa Sword advises Ning Feng Zhi to allow Rong Rong to travel her own path in life. Rong Rong tells Ou Si Ke that she will not leave even if her father comes for her but he fails to grasp her meaning that it is because of him. It leaves her annoyed.
Hunting For Soul Beasts
Lander and Master bring the students to Sunset Forest to increase their soul rings just before the contest. They split up with Master, Er Long, Tang San, and Xiao Wu in one group. The younger ones find out that Master has seen Er Long naked after she fainted following a fight. Master is embarrassed.
A spider beast lures them to a stronger Pit Demon Spider. After a fight, they manage to kill both the spiders although Xiao Wu is hit. However, the flower from Tang San’s mother protected her. The Pit Demon Spider is too old for Tang San to absorb its soul ring. But he chooses to try with his mother’s spring pool. Dai Mu Bai and Hong Jun have also absorbed their soul rings but need time to awaken as the contest begins.
Ou Si Ke enters the match first and wins the first round against Tian Dou Imperial School’s second squad with his props and inventions. Prince Xue Xing wants to buy over the referee who is from Martial Soul Hall. The referee mentions that they can help him to get the throne but in return, he will be a puppet of the Martial Soul Hall. The prince rejects the interference into their royal affairs.
Episode 31 – Shi Lan Ke Wins The First Round
Prince Xue Xing refuses to be manipulated. The match continues. Rong Rong enters the arena and makes use of the gunpowder left by Ou Si Ke earlier to try to push the opponent out of the ring. In the end, both end up outside the ring and are disqualified.
Zhu Zhu Qing is next. While her opponent loses, she left an armor on Zhu Zhu Qing to enable the next opponent to detect her location no matter how fast she moves. Zhu Zhu Qing purposely allows her opponent to beat her up to destroy the armor. Then, she defeats him. Tai Long comes up next but Zhu Zhu Qing is already injured from the earlier fight. She loses to him. Dai Mu Bai wakes up and rushes to the arena with Hong Jun.
Tang San appears just before the winner is declared. With his new powers, he swiftly sends Tai Long out of the arena for his school to win. Dai Mu Bai arrives and carries the injured Zhu Zhu Qing back to everyone’s surprise.
Shi Nian and Ye Zhi Qiu are watching the match. Shi Nian thinks the Shi Lan Ke team is good enough to be his pawn and wants to visit the school that night. Prince Xue Xing orders Tai Long to get his grandfather to kill Tang San. The Tai tribe owes the prince a debt of gratitude for saving them once.
Titan Appears
Tang San tells Xiao Wu that his Xuan Tian Strike and soul power can be combined. But he hasn’t figure out how the Xuan Tian Stirke could replace a martial soul that his mother had talked about. Tai Long’s grandfather appears at the school. Shi Nian notices him and leaves to avoid drawing unnecessary attention from the royal family. He tells Ye Zhi Qiu to visit Du Gu Bo.
Tai Long’s grandfather is a 9-soul ring Soul Master. He agrees to let Tang San go if the latter can get pass him. During the fight, Tang San is forced to use his Hao Tian Hammer. Tai Long’s grandfather demands Tang San to tell him his father’s name. Master arrives during the commotion and recognizes the old man as Titan. He tells Tang San it is safe to tell Titan his background. When Titan hears that Tang San’s father is Tang Hao, he kneels down in gratitude. Du Gu Bo appears then and thinks they are enemies. He renders them unconscious.
After some explanation, Du Gu Bo awakens Titan who asks for a private chat with Tang San and Xiao Wu. He reveals that Tang Hao had once saved his tribe from being wiped out after he had provoked someone he shouldn’t. But he had also failed Tang Hao.
Episode 32 – Ye Zhi Qiu Switches Camp
Titan explains that Tang Hao purposely sent him away for his own safety when Tang Hao knew about Qian Xun Ji’s plan. When Titan realized he was tricked, it was already too late. Tang Hao has gone missing while his wife was killed. Titan tried to exact revenge which angered Martial Soul Hall. He escaped to Tian Dou City with his tribe and Prince Xue Xing accommodated them to make use of their strength. Hence, Titan owes the prince. Titan also believes that Tang Hao is righteous.
Du Gu Bo informs Tang San that Ye Zhi Qiu wants his (Du Gu Bo’s) help during the finals in return for the antidote. However, Du Gu Bo senses that Ye Zhi Qiu is being mind-controlled and suppresses it. Ye Zhi Qiu then requests to see Tang San. When they meet him, Ye Zhi Qiu tells them that he has realized that he is merely Shi Nian’s pawn. He will fight him on his own first and will contact Tang San later. He will also try to find out more about the Hao Tian Soul Master.
During the match between Ye Zhi Qiu and Tai Long, the latter is easily defeated. But they can’t see what is Ye Zhi Qiu’s martial soul. Dai Mu Bai takes care of the injured Zhu Zhu Qing. Master plans to rest Dai Mu Bai and Hong Jun until the final round to be their secret weapon. In the next round, Tang San leads the team to defeat their opponent to advance. Master figures out Ye Zhi Qiu’s martial soul which is controlling micro-organisms and causing decay. To prevent death, they have to use their full soul power which would be too draining. Thus, they will have to go for a quick win.
Episode 33 – Shi Lan Ke Loses
Master tells Tang San that they will have to use their martial soul shield to avoid the effect from Ye Zhi Qiu’s attack. But they will first have to face Chi Huo School which only recruits Flame Branch soul masters. Tang San’s Blue Silver Plant is indestructible against flames.
Ye Zhi Qiu informs Shi Nian that Du Gu Bo will cooperate with them. He ambushes Shi Nian with his martial soul. Shi Nian squeezes his neck in return. He can’t kill him as Ye Zhi Qiu is Cang Hui’s entrant for the contest. Ye Zhi Qiu secures a promise from Shi Nian to set him free after the finals. He can only meet the Hao Tian Soul Master once he reaches the finals and he wants to see the other team members.
Prince Xue Xing brings up Rong Rong with Ning Feng Zhi who is suspicious of the prince’s intention to dismantle the Shi Lan Ke team. Tang San and his team are overconfident in their match against Chi Huo School and they lose badly. Master scolds them for being arrogant. They are ashamed but fired up to improve. Ning Feng Zhi tells them about a powerful smoky figure who demanded his cooperation in return for helping him to upgrade his clan’s martial soul. He is told to attend the finals. Rong Rong was sent to Shi Lan Ke School because he thought it can’t join the contest and she will be safe.
All the students want to continue to compete. But they tell Ou Si Ke that he should withdraw since theatre is his first love. Then, Ou Si Ke meets Prince Xue Xing who offers ownership of a theatrical club. Tai Long informs Tang San and Xiao Wu about the prince’s purchase of the club.
Episode 34 – Ye Zhi Qiu Surrenders The Match
Tang San tells Tai Long not to worry as he supports Ou Si Ke’s interest in theatre. Prince Xue Xing wants Ou Si Ke to quit Shi Lan Ke School in exchange for the theatre club. He is tempted but goes back to tell his schoolmates that he has rejected the offer. Ou Si Ke doesn’t want to leave and wants to compete alongside them.
When they meet Ye Zhi Qiu for their match, the referee notices Dai Mu Bai’s soul rings which indicate that he has consumed the Rare Powerful Chrysanthemum herb. The referee wants Dai Mu Bai to be his pupil but the latter rejects his offer. Before the match has even begun, Ye Zhi Qiu surrenders. It is Shi Nian’s plan to let Shi Lan Ke win and qualify for the finals. Ye Zhi Qiu sets up a meeting with Tang San.
Prince Xue Xing brings his soldiers to the Crown Prince’s residence. He suspects the heir is being controlled by Martial Soul Hall since the latter repeatedly failed to help Shi Lan Ke School. Qian Ren Xue appears as the Crown Prince and her tricks caused Prince Xue Xing to be arrested for rebellion.
The referee approaches Dai Mu Bai again. He is the Grand Chrysanthemum Master and Dai Mu Bai is the most compatible pupil because he has consumed the rare herb. The master offers to help him to defeat his brother but he has to join the Martial Soul Hall. Dai Mu Bai declines.
Ye Zhi Qiu brings Tang San and Xiao Wu to meet his team members who have been mind-controlled by Shi Nian. They are now merely puppets. Ye Zhi Qiu wants Tang San’s and Du Gu Bo’s help. Tang San questions if the Hao Tian Soul Master is really involved.
Episode 35 – Martial Soul City
Ye Zhi Qiu has never met the Hao Tian Soul Master but have seen Shi Nian talking to a smoky figure. Tang San tells Xiao Wu that he will stop his father if he is really in the wrong.
The Shi Lan Ke group travel to Martial Soul City for the finals. Master tells Er Long that he has no interest to meet Bi Bi Dong while they are there. They were together once but she left him to marry the ex-Martial Soul Hall chief. Er Long thinks Bi Bi Dong made the wrong choice. Ou Si Ke gives Rong Rong a pair of earrings. Xiao Wu wants to travel after the finals. Tang San wants to accompany her.
Qian Ren Xue returns to Martial Soul City as the Crown Prince. She meets Bi Bi Dong and explains that she has switched her target from Dai Mu Bai to the Tian Dou Crown Prince because Dai Mu Bai has little chance of becoming the Emperor with a powerful brother. They can combine the power of the Tian Dou Empire with the Martial Soul Hall and attack Xing Luo Empire instead. However, Qian Ren Xue feels that Bi Bi Dong doesn’t appreciate her sacrifices and efforts.
Bi Bi Dong wants Qian Ren Xue to remember her identity. She gives her a 1,000-year-old Demon Fox for her 4th soul ring. She also wants to meet Tang San. Bi Bi Dong forces Tang San’s martial soul out of him. His Hao Tian Hammer gives him away as Tang Hao’s son. Bi Bi Dong denies killing his mother but refuses to reveal who else could be involved. She tells him to hide his Hao Tian Hammer during the contest.
Grand Ghost Master
While leaving, Tang San comes across a smoky figure going in to meet Bi Bi Dong. Tang San still thinks Qian Ren Xue is Hu Lie Na. He asks her about the smoky figure and finds out that he is the Grand Ghost Master. Tang San tells Hu Lie Na that the Grand Ghost Master could be Su Yun Tao’s killer but she thinks it could also be Cang Hui’s leader. Thus, she wants Tang San to keep an eye on Cang Hui for her.
In return, Tang San wants access to their library to check records on his mother’s case. But he tells Hu Lie Na that he wants to know more about Master and Bi Bi Dong’s past relationship instead. Hu Lie Na lends him her token for access. They have a tiff with Xie Yue when the latter notices she has lent her token to Tang San.
Master is worried about Tang San and requests to see Bi Bi Dong who tells him that Tang San has left after their meeting. She still has a yearning for Master but the latter is no longer interested to go back to the past. The things that they want are also different. Master leaves and bumps into Tang San. They then discover that Hu Lie Na’s token carries more authority than normal.
Dai Wei Shi attacks Dai Mu Bai. He has learned that his younger brother has also obtained 4 soul rings.
Episode 36 – Assassination Plan
Dai Wei Shi injures Dai Mu Bai’s martial soul. He warns him that he will kill him during their match.
Tang San and Master search the library records. He also informs Master that Bi Bi Dong is able to control and force out his martial soul. Master is shocked at her unusual power. They split up to search the vast library. Then, Tang San hears some footsteps. He follows the sound and finds a book on the floor but with pages missing. Master appears. The book reveals that Chief Quan Xun Ji died of severe injuries. Prior to that, Tang Hao had led a team to Island of the God of Sea. Master suspects the island could be related to Tang San’s mother.
Du Gu Bo meets up with Ning Feng Zhi who suggests that they cooperate to take on a common enemy. They then receive a note that spells out their mission. Du Gu Bo informs Tang San that the plan is to kill Bi Bi Dong as Martial Soul Hall is getting too powerful that it could gradually control the 2 empires. The Grand Soul Land Masters of Martial Soul Hall will be lured away for the assassination to take place. Tang San tells Xiao Wu that he must meet his father before the assassination attempt. He is uneasy as Martial Soul Hall also comprises many innocent people and he is mindful of his mother’s advice of not being revengeful.
Contest Begins
Dai Mu Bai’s martial soul can only recover if he has the willpower. But he is feeling depressed after being beaten up by his brother again. Master suggests a risky way to fire him up. Zhu Zhu Qing is willing to confront Dai Wei Shi to instigate Dai Mu Bai to save her. It works as Dai Mu Bai appears to protect Zhu Zhu Qing from his brother. Zhu Zhu Qing’s elder sister is on Dai Wei Shi’s side. The Grand Chrysanthemum Master teaches Dai Mu Bai to use Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 2 soul masters can combine their martial souls but they need to have complete trust in each other for it to work.
Bi Bi Dong is informed that the Soul Beasts are coming out of Star Forest and heading to Martial Soul City. She orders the Grand Soul Land Masters to chase them back to the forest. Only the Grand Chrysanthemum Master and Grand Ghost Master will remain in the city although the latter wants to leave for the forest too. Xiao Wu is worried about the Soul Beasts’ safety. Tang San assures her that it is just a ploy to lure away the powerful soul masters and the beasts would not really fight seriously.
Shi Nian wants Ye Zhi Qiu to win all the matches with his mind-controlled team members. He also wants him to go and meet someone from Martial Soul Hall. Ye Zhi Qiu is not told who the person is but is given an object for identification.
Shi Lan Ke’s first match is against Dai Wei Shi and Zhu Zhu Qing’s sister. Dai Mu Bai tells his team that he will handle the fight with Zhu Zhu Qing. Both of them use the Martial Soul Fusion Skill.
Episode 37 – Identifying The Spy
During the match, Ye Zhi Qiu covertly appears and meets up with Tang San and Xiao Wu. He shows them the object that Shi Nian has given him. Tang San offers to meet the person on his behalf and takes the object from him. Xiao Wu insists on following Tang San.
Dai Mu Bai and Zhu Zhu Qing combine their martial souls and defeat Dai Wei Shi. Rong Rong teases them about being a couple. The Grand Chrysanthemum Master asks Dai Mu Bai to be his pupil again but gets rejected once more.
A guard identifies the object hold by Tang San. He leads him and Xiao Wu to the room behind the chief’s throne. No other guards can be seen which raises his suspicion. Inside the room are 2 soul bones which are the championship prizes. The guard asks Tang San to take out the object which is then fused into one of the bones. They are then led out. Tang San tries to question the guard but the latter suddenly commits suicide.
Xie Yue leads the Martial Soul Hall team to defeat Hu Tian Heng and Yan Yan from the Tian Dou team. Tang San returns to the library with Xiao Wu. He checks the library records and discovers the Grand Chrysanthemum Master had looked up the Azure Bull Python’s secret location. Tang San then informs Ye Zhi Qiu that the Grand Chrysanthemum Master could be a spy and in cahoots with Cang Hui School. He plans to capture him.
Losing Teams Are Missing
The Grand Chrysanthemum Master reports to Bi Bi Dong that the guard’s suicide case will be quietly investigated while the contest is in progress. He also mentions that 3 schools seem to have the same force behind them including Chi Huo. He is then puzzled by Bi Bi Dong’s ramblings about the connection between Soul Masters and Soul Beasts. She also questions if the Douluo Continent exists only for Soul Masters.
For Shi Lan Ke’s next match, they easily defeat Chi Luo School after losing to them previously. After the loss, Chi Luo’s team leader, Huo Wu, gives her flame to Tang San. It is the nature of her martial soul. Huo Wu tells him that the losers of the competition have gone missing and she suspects her team will be next. The flame will give him the signal if she is still alive or dead. She wants him to investigate the truth.
Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Dai Mu Bai rush to check on his brother and the Tian Dou team. Both are missing. Dai Mu Bai questions of it could be the work of the Grand Chrysanthemum Master.
Episode 38 – Investigating The Grand Chrysanthemum Master
Tang San wants to save the missing people. He proposes that they seek Bi Bi Dong’s help through Hu Lie Na. They explain to her about the Grand Chrysanthemum Master’s plan to assassinate her chief. Hu Lie Na uses her teammate to lure him away for them to enter his room to look for proof. However, Xiao Wu and Tang San suddenly disappear while they are scouting around in his room.
Hu Lie Na informs Bi Bi Dong who orders her not to get involved. Bi Bi Dong appears not to trust her and reminds her to keep her identity a secret. Hu Lie Na is disappointed that Bi Bi Dong has never acknowledged her efforts but still hopes that the latter would question the Grand Chrysanthemum Master.
Secret Chamber
Xiao Wu and Tang San have been transported to a secret chamber after touching some flowers. Soul Beasts have been maltreated there with bones left behind. These are millennium Soul Beasts which were transforming into humans. They suspect the Grand Chrysanthemum Master did it to frame Bi Bi Dong and provoke the anger of the Azure Bull Python. Xiao Wu is secretly sad over the dead Soul Beasts.
Dai Mu Bai lures the Grand Chrysanthemum Master away to enable Hu Lie Na to enter his room to look for Xiao Wu and Tang San. Xiao Wu finds out that only she could enter and exit the secret chamber when she touches the flowers and the person holding her would also be brought along. They exit the chamber to find Hu Lie Na there. Xiao Wu then brings her to the secret chamber. When the Grand Chrysanthemum Master returns, the 3 of them have already left.
Tang San asks Du Gu Bo to cooperate with Ning Feng Zhi and Grandpa Sword to capture the Grand Chrysanthemum Master. He tells him that Yan Yan is missing. Ye Zhi Qiu tells Shi Nian that he has fused the object into the soul bone as per what Tang San has told him. Shi Nian then seeks out Tang San and asks him to lose the next match against Cang Hui. He also allows him to meet the Hao Tian Soul Master.
Episode 39 – Tang San Defeats Shi Nian
Tang San sees his father. He is disappointed when his father admits that he is behind the mutant souls case. The Cang Hui School has to win the championship because he has arranged for Bi Bi Dong to be killed during the prize giving ceremony. One of the team members has a special soul skill that can make Bi Bi Dong lose control of her power. The object fused into the soul bone works as a sign to target Bi Bi Dong. The rest of the team members and Grand Soul Land Masters will then cooperate to kill her off.
Tang San refuses to obey his father’s request for him to lose the match against Cang Hui. Then, his schoolmates appear. His father is killing all of them. Tang San brings up the wind chime and asks his father to stop. But his father flings the wind chime away. That is when Tang San knows it is all an illusion as his father would never destroy the wind chime which represents his parental love.
Shi Nian reappears once Tang San has broken his mind control. He squeezes Tang San’s neck to kill him. Tang San’s Blue Silver Plant suddenly appears and aims straight at Shi Nian to strangle him. It has the power of a Grand Soul Land Master. Tang San’s mother has hidden her final strength in his heart to protect him. Shi Nian’s martial soul is broken as a result.
Ye Zhi Qiu’s teammates also awaken as Shi Nian’s control over them is lost. He decides to leave Martial Soul City with his teammates and will bring Shi Nian along to keep an eye on him to prevent him from awakening.
The Spy Is Someone Else
Du Gu Bo is trying to capture the Grand Chrysanthemum Master with Ning Feng Zhi and Grandpa Sword. They are engaging in a fight. Hu Lie Na requests back her token from Tang San. He finds out that his library activities have been recorded under her name as he has used her token. Thus, he suspects someone close to the Grand Chrysanthemum Master must have used his token to access sensitive library resources for the assassination plan and that person should be the Grand Ghost Master. They rush to stop Du Gu Bo.
When they arrive, Du Gu Bo tells them that the Grand Chrysanthemum Master has admitted to the crime. Then, Bi Bi Dong appears and refrains Du Gu Bo, Ning Feng Zhi, and Grandpa Sword. Tang San explains about Cang Hui’s assassination plot. Bi Bi Dong is aware of it as well as the missing people. She will set them free after the finals. She is also aware that Soul Beasts are killed for experiments in the secret chamber. Only the Grand Chrysanthemum Master, herself, and Soul Beasts can enter it. Hence, Bi Bi Dong knows Xiao Wu must be a Soul Beast. Hu Lie Na feels that she is just a pawn given Bi Bi Dong’s pretense.
Just before the final match, Lander announces the students’ graduation. Dai Mu Bai plans to go back to Xing Luo Empire to face his family. Zhu Zhu Qing will also return to Xing Luo. Hong Jun wants to travel and help other mutant souls. Rong Rong will go back to her clan. Ou Si Ke wants to remain in the school before he decides what he wants to do and then go and look for Rong Rong. Tang San will look for his father. Xiao Wu plans to follow him.
Episode 40 – The Final
The final match between Martial Soul Hall and Shi Lan Ke begins. Tang San battles Xie Yue while his other team members split up to take on Hu Lie Na and Yan. The team members fighting Hu Lie Na suddenly change direction and attack Yan to force him out of the ring. Then, they surround Hu Lie Na. She would have been defeated if not for Xie Yue’s help. Hu Lie Na voluntarily gets out of the ring leaving Xie Yue to fight alone.
Xie Yue’s Moon Blades are strong and fast. Tang San has to throw out his Hao Tian Hammer at one point. When Xie Yun cuts off his spider leg soul bones with his Moon Blades, Tang San remote controls a fragment of it to hold it against Xie Yun’s neck. Xiao Wu then kicks him out of the ring. Shi Lan Ke is declared the winner.
During the prize giving ceremony, the Grand Ghost Master appears with other Grand Soul Land Masters to exact revenge against Bi Bi Dong because she had killed Qian Xun Ji. Bi Bi Dong purposely allowed them to carry out the assassination plan so that she could get rid of everyone involved at one go. With her super powers, she easily immobilizes Grand Ghost Master and his co-conspirators and kill all of them.
Xiao Wu’s Identity
Then, Bi Bi Dong turns to Xiao Wu who is a century millennium Soul Beast. She wants to kill and add Xiao Wu to her Soul Beasts collection. Tang San doesn’t care if Xiao Wu is a Soul Beast. He wants to protect her. When Bi Bi Dong wants to kill him as well, Tang Hao appears and throws his hammer at her.
Tang Hao and Xiao Wu are then seen escaping with an injured Tang San. Tang Hao acknowledges that Bi Bi Dong has indeed grown very powerful. His son will be fine although he is currently unconscious. Tang Hao saved Xiao Wu because she reminds him of his wife. Tang San’s mother was also a Soul Beast which had transformed into a human. They were hunted because of their relationship. Tang Hao advised Xiao Wu to leave Tang San as he is afraid they will suffer the same fate. He tells Xiao Wu that she is too weak to be with Tang San and they will face danger if they are together. He wants her to stay away from his son until she becomes stronger.
Xiao Wu understands. She says she will leave Tang San. She kisses him as tears fall and a voice asks him to wake up.

Other Dramas With Sean Xiao
Well, the famous fantasy drama with Sean Xiao that got a lot of people hooked is The Untamed. It is a 50-episode series with a subtle boy love flavor. His partner in the drama, Wang Yi Bo, is also a huge star himself. The Untamed is also based on a novel and the screen adaptation is definitely worth a watch here.
