Yang Yang has an upcoming drama named The Immortal Ascension (凡人修仙传) which is expected to be broadcast in late March 2025. I think most of his fans will be happily looking forward to this. After all, it has been more than a year since his last drama was aired. That drama was Fireworks Of My Heart whereby it generated lots of gossips revolving around Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran who was his co-star.
The Immortal Ascension will be exclusive to Youku. The number of episodes planned was 40 originally but it has been cut down to 38 and subsequently 34. It remains to be seen whether there will be further changes in the final count because I have seen reports that it will only have 30 episodes. It is currently ranked no. 3 on the Youku’s drama reservation list with more than 1.7 million viewers awaiting its broadcast. Starring opposite Yang Yang would be Gina Jin Chen of Why Women Love and Falling Into You.
Yang Yang’s New Drama Role
Yang Yang plays Han Li in The Immortal Ascension which is a fantasy/xianxia drama. Han Li is an ordinary boy in the mountains with poor martial arts skills. He joins a small sect by chance and was accepted as a disciple due to his spiritual roots. From there, he works hard at his cultivation to become an immortal. It is a path that is plagued by difficulties and clashes with demons and celestials. His love interest is Nangong Wang who is portrayed by Gina Jin.
Filming for this drama started in July 2023 and was completed in December 2023. So, it has been more than a year since its filming was wrapped up. The broadcast delay is apparently due to the post-production works, market research, and choosing the best broadcast timing for maximum impact in terms of ratings and viewership.
