The cast of My Destiny (我和我的命) has been officially announced. Seven Tan Song Yun is the lead in this drama which has just completed its filming. It took the team about 4 months to film this drama and it is produced by Youku. It is based on a novel written by Liang Xiao Sheng who is an award winner in the literary world in China.
My Destiny is an inspirational and a female empowerment drama. It details the life of a woman born in the 1970’s and her struggles from her teenage years until her success as an entrepreneur. She grew up in a mountainous area and has to drop out of college to work in a factory due to family changes when she was young. From there, she slowly learned new skills and started her own business. With setbacks along the way, she persevered and eventually found success. The time period coincides with the opening up of the Chinese economy and major changes in society including the role of women.
Supporting Cast
Of course, just the female lead alone is not enough to carry such a significant drama. Hence, there are also veterans in its cast including Wang Jin Song who needs no introduction. He has played many, many supporting roles including in hit dramas such as Nirvana In Fire and The Ingenious One. The other veteran actor in My Destiny would be Liu Wei who has been acting for a few decades. He has a main role in The Story Of Xing Fu with Zhao Li Ying.
Speaking of Zhao Li Ying, My Destiny actually reminds me of her drama, Wild Bloom, that also centers on a female entrepreneur and her struggles to make it big in the steel industry. The tone and time setting seem similar in these 2 stories. Now, I wonder whether My Destiny would be able to garner the same success as Wild Bloom in China when it comes on air.
