I decided to watch Legend Of Yun Xi (芸汐传) to see how Zhang Zhe Han would perform in a costume drama after catching him in a contemporary role in Everyone Wants To Meet You. Furthermore, the main leads have another upcoming drama for fans to look forward to. Hence, Legend Of Yun Xi must be pretty good for them to be cast together again so soon in The Blooms At Ruyi Pavilion. But for now, let me dive head on into this series first. You can check out my Legend Of Yun Xi review or read the episode summary below.
Episode 1 – 3 : The Marriage
The Emperor decrees that Fei Ye and Yun Xi are to be married after listening to the Empress Dowager’s suggestion. She uses the excuse that Yun Xi is promised to Fei Ye long ago when Yun Xi’s mother cured her. The real reason is she sees Fei Ye as a threat in the royal court. The Empress Dowager convinces Yun Xi to cooperate by promising to offer her news of her missing mother, Tian Xin. In return, Yun Xi has to spy on Fei Ye and report to the Empress Dowager who is suspicious about Fei Ye’s real identity.
As for Yun Xi, she can’t wait to get out of her family as she feels unloved by her father and bullied by her stepmother and stepsister. But Yun Xi also has an ugly carbuncle on her face which would be embarrassing for a duke’s wife. Her father tried to stop her from marrying Fei Ye by poisoning her which further strained their relationship. Fei Ye’s mother, Grand Imperial Consort Yi, also opposes Yun Xi marrying into the family. But there is nothing that she can do since it is the Emperor’s order.
A Month Before The Wedding
A month before the wedding, Yun Xi met Fei Ye while out hunting for a plant to cure her carbuncle. She eventually did with the help of her mother’s magical bracelet. Fei Ye was out investigating a case involving the experimentation of poisons to turn humans into zombies. This experiment is being carried out by the Crown Prince and the Royal Uncle. Yun Xi stole a poison scripture from Fei Ye in their confrontation. She then escaped into Yao Gui Valley and met the owner, Gu Qi Shao, who seemed to take a liking to her.
On the wedding day, the Crown Prince and the Royal Uncle arranged for Fei Ye to be assassinated with the help of Gu Qi Shao. But Fei Ye managed to stay alive although heavily injured. He makes his way back to the Qin Mansion. Yun Xi recognizes him as the man she met a month ago. She helps him with her medical skills but didn’t know that he is the prince who is to be her husband.
Episode 4 – 6 : The Politics
When Yun Xi finds out that the injured man is Fei Ye, she is worried that he will recognise her. He doesn’t but is still suspicious of her. He is wary that Yun Xi is the Empress Dowager’s spy. Fei Ye orders Yun Xi to move into her own pavilion rather than staying with him. The Empress Dowager is pressuring Yun Xi to find out if Fei Ye has a birth mark on his body as this would confirm his identity as the 4th prince. She is given a month to do so. However, Yun Xi is having problems doing so due to Fei Ye’s cold attitude towards her.
Western Qiu
When Fei Ye defeated Western Qiu in a battle (he turned into a zombie himself in a fit of rage), Princess Chu Qing Ge has to marry the Emperor of Tian Ning in a political alliance. Her plan is to exact revenge for the defeat of her state. To do this, Western Qiu has to rely on Northern Li for assistance. Chu Qing Ge and Gu Qi Shao are ordered to cooperate and exchange intel to stir trouble in Tian Ning. Gu Qi Shao is a spy for Northern Li.
On top of that, Crown Prince Long Tian Mo and the Royal Uncle are trying hard to get rid of Fei Ye who has found out about their poison zombies project. They seek the help of Gu Qi Shao. 2 more ministers are poisoned to death. They are the political opponents of Fei Ye. General Mu is ordered to investigate. There is no solid evidence but Fei Ye has to give up his military power until investigations are completed.
Fei Ye seeks to clear his name. The corpses of the victims reveal a unique scent of sandalwood which provides a clue. When Yun Xi hears about Fei Ye being framed, she sneaks out of Qin Mansion to look at the corpses. As she is proficient in poisons, she hopes to help Fei Ye to earn his trust so that it will be easier for her to look for the mark on his body. But Yun Xi encounters someone at the mortuary.
Episode 7 – 9 : Earning Fei Ye’s Trust
Imperial Physician Gu is doing the autopsies on the orders of the Emperor. Yun Xi bluffs him that she is sent by Chief Imperial Physician Han to help him. Yun Xi discovers that a venomous mosquito is the killer weapon and a scent has been used to attract it to the victims. She meets Gu Qi Shao on her way back and they are spied on by Yu Ze. Yu Ze is in love with Gu Qi Shao. She takes orders from him while working at a brothel as a cover. Yun Xi bumps into her while hurrying home and a scent from some spilled powder tells Yun Xi that she is involved in the murders of the ministers.
With Yun Xi gone the whole day from Qin Mansion, Fei Ye finds the poison scripture that she has taken from him earlier and that she has been looking for his birth mark to report to Empress Dowager. Yun Xi admits it but clarifies that she had really been looking for the plant to cure her carbuncle and had no other motive then. She also gives Fei Ye a heads up on Zu Ye to help him clear his name. Fei Ye and his men manage to pursue Yu Ze into a valley. Yun Xi takes a hit to save Fei Ye. His heart starts to soften towards her. Yu Ze is eventually captured and Gu Qi Shao finally realizes that Yun Xi is Fei Ye’s consort.
Tang Li’s Arrival
Tang Li is Fei Ye’s younger brother. He is trying to escape from an arranged marriage with his master’s daughter, Ning Jing. So, he hopes to hide in Qin Mansion. But Ning Jing is insistent on the marriage as she loves Tang Li and comes looking for him. She tends to bully him a lot which causes him to want to avoid her as much as possible. Ning Jing admires Yun Xi for daring to walk into Qin Mansion to become Fei Ye’s consort. Yun Xi tries to help her and they strike up a friendly relationship.
Testing Princess Qing Ge’s Loyalty
As Princess Qing Ge is from Western Qiu, the Emperor and Empress Dowager are suspicious of her intentions. Princess Qing Ge agreed to the marriage on the suggestion of the Crown Prince of Northern Li. They hope to join hands to fight against Tian Ning. So, the Emperor and his mother set up a ruse that the former is down with the contagious and deadly smallpox. Princess Qing Ge sees through the ruse. She offers to take care of the Emperor to prove her loyalty and treads cautiously.
Imperial Consort Xiao falls out of favour as a result of her reluctance to take care of the Emperor when he was sick. This disappoints the Empress Dowager and she decides to give Princess Qing Ge a chance to reshuffle the power balance among the Emperor’s concubines. Princess Qing Ge takes the opportunity to further work her way into the Emperor’s heart to lower his guard.
The Empress Dowager is getting impatient with Yun Xi who hasn’t reported any progress on her mission to confirm Fei Ye’s identity. She frames Yun Xi’s aunt to force her hand. Yun Xi’s aunt is dragged to court over the death of a patient from her medicine hall.
Episode 10 – 12 : Yu Ze’s Case
Fei Ye helps Yun Xi to prove her aunt’s innocence. Yun Xi is delighted with his help but feels pressured by the Empress Dowager’s orders. Fei Ye suspects that the Empress Dowager is behind the plot. He tests out Yun Xi by allowing her to see him unclothed during a bathing session. Yun Xi goes on to lie to the Empress Dowager about Fei Ye’s birth mark. She also makes up stories about Fei Ye’s movements to report to the Empress Dowager. Fei Ye is happy to learn that his consort is loyal to him.
Fei Ye’s Background
Yun Xi hears from Nanny Zhao that Fei Ye was sent out of the palace when he was a baby as his birth chart was deemed inauspicious. He was separated from his mother for more than 10 years. He was allowed back into the palace just before the passing of the previous Emperor. On the day he returned, his manor caught fire and the suspicion is it was done on the orders of the Empress Dowager to try to kill him off so that her own son would succeed the throne. Nobody survived the fire at the manor except Fei Ye himself. This makes Yun Xi wary of the Empress Dowager.
Being suspicious in nature, the Empress Dowager still do not trust Princess Qing Ge completely although she is willing to give her a chance. Princess Qing Ge knows she has to do more than superficial moves to establish her position in the royal harem. Imperial Consort Xiao is worried that Princess Qing Ge will take her place as the Emperor’s favoured concubine and relates her worries to her son, the second prince.
Clearing Fei Ye’s Name
Having caught Yu Ze, Fei Ye hopes to clear his name regarding the murders of the ministers. However, Yu Ze refuses to talk and poisons herself. Fei Ye gets Yun Xi to cure her and extracts a confession. The mastermind points to the Crown Prince. Working together with General Mu, they try to use Yu Ze as a bait to lure the mastermind out into the open. The Crown Prince wants Yu Ze killed because she knows too much while Gu Qi Shao wants to save her. General Mu sets a trap but is poisoned by Gu Qi Shao and becomes unconscious. Yun Xi witnesses the fight and tries to help General Mu. However, she is accused of trying to kill him instead.
Princess Chang Ling who is in love with General Mu throws Yun Xi into jail despite her best attempts to save the general. Gu Qi Shao feels sorry for dragging Yun Xi into the mess and visits her in prison. The Royal Uncle convinces the Emperor to let him take charge of the investigation. The Emperor has long seen Fei Ye as a threat anyway. The plan is to accuse Yun Xi of taking orders from Fei Ye to kill General Mu who is investigating the case. The Royal Uncle purposely lets Yun Xi escape from prison so she could be caught outside the gates and be branded a fugitive. However, Fei Ye saved her from getting re-arrested and rushed her over to treat General Mu. The general is saved by Yun Xi and could attest to her innocence.
Episode 13 – 15 : Fei Ye’s Real Identity
Yu Ze is brought before the Emperor. She lays the blame at the Crown Prince. Fei Ye also provides evidence of the Royal Uncle’s corruption. The Royal Uncle takes all the blame to save the Crown Prince as it was a promise to his late sister. The Emperor has no choice but to order the Royal Uncle to die by drinking poisoned wine. Fei Ye is tasked to oversee the process. Just before the Royal Uncle’s death, Fei Ye reveals to him his secret – that he is a royalty from the fallen state of Qin Xi. All his family members were caught although Tang Li was smuggled out from prison. Tian Ning, Northern Li, and Western Qiu conspired to cause the downfall of Qin Xin when he was still a boy. Fei Ye was forced to become a poison zombie and the symptoms will ravage his body once a month.
After the death of his uncle, the Crown Prince has to rely on Gu Qi Shao for assistance. In return, Gu Qi Shao demands for Yu Ze to be rescued. But the Crown Prince poisoned her before releasing her back to Gu Qi Shao. The Crown Prince of Northern Li, Jun Yi Zheng, carries a message from their father to Gu Qi Shao to hasten the search for the poison master. Both Gu Qi Shao and Jun Yi Zheng do not get along.
The Poison Master
The poison master is the creator of the poison zombies. He is being held by Tian Ning’s Emperor. All the states are looking for the poison master because he could help them to create an army of poison zombies to defeat their enemies. Gu Qi Shao seeks Princess Qing Ge’s help to locate the man. However, the princess is being cautious as Northern Li would benefit if the poison master is to fall into their hands. She is also working to earn the trust of the Emperor.
The Emperor is also aware that Fei Ye has found out about the poison zombies project. Worried that the poison master would be found, the Emperor orders the Second Prince Long Tian Qing to move him every 2 weeks to a new location.
The Crown Prince finds out that the Second Prince had a hand in uncovering the corruption evidence of his maternal uncle which was then anonymously passed on to Fei Ye’s men. On the other hand, the Second Prince is planning to counteract Princess Qing Ge’s growing influence over the Emperor which has left his mother sidelined.
Princess Chang Ping’s Ailment
Princess Chang Ping comes down with skin blotches all over her face. It is secretly caused by Yun Xi when the princess bullied her in the prison cell earlier. As the imperial physicians are unable to cure her, she has to seek treatment from Yun Xi. But to get Yun Xi to do so, Princess Chang Ping has to get consent from Grand Imperial Consort Yi. As the Empress Dowager has a close relationship with her granddaughter, she has to lower herself to ask for Grand Imperial Consort Yi’s help. Yun Xi purposely makes it embarrassing for the Empress Dowager which delights Fei Ye’s mother who now sees her in a different light.
Imperial Consort Xiao and Princess Qing Ge pay Princess Chang Ping a visit after learning about her ailment. Princess Chang Ping is unwelcoming towards Imperial Consort Xiao as she knows it is all a show. But Princess Qing Ge manages to strike up a friendly relationship with Princess Chang Ping.
Yun Xi’s Home Visit
Yun Xi is bullied by her stepsister during her first home visit after her marriage. Fei Ye decides to show up and sees the incident. He is angry and reprimands Han Ruo Xue and her mother. Han Cong An tries to salvage his relationship with his daughter but Yun Xi is unforgiving. Fei Ye sees a picture of Yun Xi’s late mother and realizes that she was the one who tried to help him escape from being locked up as a poison zombie when he was a boy. She died to protect him. Now, Fei Ye vows to protect her daughter in return.
Yun Xi forgets her appointment with Gu Qi Shao who is disappointed that she didn’t show up. She stays the night during the home visit. Fei Ye decides to accompany her and they end up sharing a bed.
Episode 16 – 18 : Ming Xiang’s Arrival
The next morning, Yun Xi recalls her appointment with Gu Qi Shao. She rushes out to try to find him but he has gone. Fei Ye waits for Yun Xi to make the trip back to Qin Mansion. He isn’t too pleased that she left the manor without informing him. So, Yun Xi promises to concoct him supplements to make up to him. In return, Fei Ye agrees to get ready a medicinal hall just for her.
They arrive back at Fei Ye’s home to find Ming Xiang already there. Fei Ye and Ming Xiang are childhood friends and she has feelings for him. Ming Xiang is also Grand Imperial Consort Yi’s niece. She has been treating Fei Ye’s Gu Poison by using her own blood which has been poisoned.
Princess Qing Ge’s Counter Attack
The Crown Prince gets word that the Second Prince and Imperial Consort Xiao is preparing to launch an attack against Princess Qing Ge. Gu Qi Shao advises the Crown Prince to warn Princess Qing Ge and make her into an ally. Hence, Princess Qing Ge turns the table on Imperial Consort Xiao. She poisons herself but leaves incriminating evidence that points towards her enemy to sow doubt in the Emperor’s mind. Yun Xi is summoned to treat Princess Qing Ge which she successfully does.
Yun Xi Is Jealous
As Ming Xiang has a close relationship with Fei Ye, Yun Xi becomes jealous and unhappy. She goes to meet Gu Qi Shao to apologize for missing their appointment. They end up drinking and Gu Qi Shao sends her home drunk. She ends up kissing Fei Ye in front of everyone and proclaims that he is hers. Fei Ye is secretly pleased and takes care of the drunk Yun Xi the whole night which causes Ming Xiang to be unhappy.
Fei Ye’s Gu Poison has been acting up and Ming Xiang is concocting medicine mixed with her blood to help him suppress it. The urgency to find the poison master is increased in order to get the antidote. However, the Emperor is keeping a close watch with the help of the Second Prince.
Fei Ye doesn’t want Yun Xi to know about his Gu Poison to protect her. So, he creates a distance between them but Yun Xi becomes suspicious about his health and the medicine that Ming Xiang has been preparing for him. She discovers that the medicine contains poison. Yun Xi knocks the bowl from Ming Xiang’s hand just as she offers it to Fei Ye. An argument breaks out between Yun Xi and Fei Ye when the latter says that he trusts Ming Xiang. Yun Xi storms off and vowing not to care anymore. Fei Ye vomits blood as the poison acts up.
Episode 19 – 21 : Rescuing The Poison Master
Yun Xi feels dissatisfied and laces desserts she bakes for Fei Ye with an antidote to counteract Ming Xiang’s medicine. The Emperor is ready to transfer the poison master to his palace dungeon. Princess Qing Ge passes a secret message to Gu Qi Shao about the plan. Gu Qi Shao asks the Crown Prince to verify with the Second Prince about the news. The Second Prince purposely leaks the information with the hope to lure the Crown Prince into a trap. Gu Qi Shao convinces the Crown Prince to abduct the poison master because this would break the Emperor’s trust in the Second Prince’s capability if they are successful. If they fail, they could still lay the blame on Fei Ye who also has an interest in the poison master.
The Empress Dowager is again pressuring Yun Xi to spy on Fei Ye and report to her about his health. She reminds Yun Xi that her mother’s life is in her hands.
Competing For The Poison Master
On the day of the prisoner transfer, Fei Ye is summoned to the palace as expected. 3 carriages are prepared but they are all decoys. Fei Ye’s plan is to ambush the 3 carriages and then retreat to give the impression that they have failed. The 4th carriage is the one carrying the poison master and the Second Prince. Back at the palace, Fei Ye sneaks out after the Emperor is called to attend to an urgent matter which has been arranged by Fei Ye beforehand. He does this by blackmailing the Crown Prince with the poison zombie project to get him to keep quiet about his absence from the palace.
Fei Ye and his team successfully abduct the poison master. Gu Qi Shao and his men try to snatch the poison master away. Fei Ye’s Gu Poison starts to act up due to Yun Xi’s antidote during the fight. He turns into a poison zombie which scares Gu Qi Shao and his men away. All this is quietly witnessed by Imperial Physician Gu who has been looking for the poison master himself. When Fei Ye reverts to his normal self, he turns weak but has to rush back to the palace to avert suspicion.
Yun Xi who is also at the palace to meet the Empress Dowager, notices something amiss about Fei Ye’s health. She helps him by secretly treating him with her needle to the back of his neck to prevent him from collapsing. When they reach home, Fei Ye drops unconscious. Yun Xi is locked up by her mother-in-law for being a spy.
Treating Fei Ye
Yun Xi escapes from her captivity with help from Ning Jing. She finds out that Fei Ye is afflicted with Gu Poison. Yun Xi goes to Gu Qi Shao to find a substitute for poisoned blood as a suppressant for the Gu Poison. Gu Qi Shao gives her a rare herb to concoct the suppressant. But it raises his suspicion that Fei Ye might be the poison zombie he saw earlier and orders an investigation into Fei Ye’s background. Similarly, the Emperor’s suspicion is raised and he does the same.
Yun Xi returns to Qin Mansion but faces Grand Imperial Consort Yi’s wrath. However, Fei Ye protects her and trusts her. Ming Xiang is disappointed that Fei Ye speaks up for Yun Xi although Grand Imperial Consort Yi is on her side. She has been risking her life to save Fei Ye with her poisoned blood. Yun Xi comes clean with Fei Ye about the Empress Dowager’s threat. He tells her that her mother is probably dead and that the Empress Dowager is just using her. But Yun Xi does not want to give up any opportunity to reunite with her mother.
Episode 22 – 24 : Attempts To Unmask Fei Ye
Fei Ye is not ready to tell Yun Xi the truth about her mother as this will reveal his identity and that he is a poison zombie. The poison master has an unsound mind and Fei Ye decides to let Yun Xi to try to treat him. However, Ming Xiang is uncomfortable over Fei Ye’s decision. Fei Ye also tells Ming Xiang that he only sees her as a sister.
Gu Qi Shao sneaks into Qin Mansion and passes a rare herb sachet to Yun Xi. This herb would cause a person afflicted with Gu Poison to catch a cold. A few days later, Yun Xi drops by Yao Gui Valley to get some herbs to treat a cold and lunatic mind. This raises Gu Qi Shao’s suspicions that Fei Ye is the poison zombie and the poison master is with him He passes the message to the Crown Prince who goes on to tell the Emperor.
The Plan
The Emperor and Empress Dowager hatch a plot to try to unmask Fei Ye. On the Empress Dowager’s birthday celebration, Yun Xi is blackmailed into cooperating with threats to her mother’s life. She is required to poke needles into certain meridian points of Fei Ye during treatment. This would trigger the poison to act up and he will turn into a zombie.
A friendly duel is arranged during the celebration between Fei Ye and another martial artist. Fei Ye is hurt and brought into a treatment room. Yun Xi does as instructed by the Empress Dowager. Fei Ye turns into a zombie but Xi Feng appears from the room dressed as the zombie to distract everyone’s attention. When Xi Feng tries to stab the Emperor, Princess Qing Ge steps in front of him and gets stabbed instead. Xi Feng leads the pursuers away to the Crown Prince’s poison zombie research facility.
The Emperor is grateful to Princess Qing Ge and she has earned his trust. She overhears the Crown Prince’s folly about the research facility. The Emperor is angry with the Crown Prince and puts him under house arrest. With the threat from Fei Ye and his unpopularity among the masses, he orders rumours about Fei Ye to circulate. The rumours are about his lineage and that he is a poison zombie. The Emperor then offers his troops to protect Qin Mansion on the pretext of keeping his family safe but in effect it is to watch over them.
Kicking Yun Xi Out
Yun Xi didn’t know that Fei Ye is the poison zombie. She thought that he is only afflicted with the Gu Poison. Yun Xi is sorry for what she has done. Her mother-in-law wants Fei Ye to divorce her but he is still protective of Yun Xi. Although Fei Ye is angry, he calms down after listening to Yun Xi’s explanation. Fei Ye informs Yun Xi that her mother is dead and she was the one who saved him from the prison cell. He was the only survivor in an experiment to turn royal family members of Qin Xin into poison zombies.
Fei Ye decides to let go of Yun Xi for her own good. He kicks Yun Xi out of Qin Mansion to her disappointment. Ming Xiang is happy but Fei Ye reminds her that he still regards Yun Xi as his consort. Ming Xiang herself is weak from constant poisoning of her blood but she is willing to sacrifice her life to save Fei Ye. Gu Qi Shao brings a depressed Yun Xi back to Yao Gui Valley.
Episode 25 – 27 : Curing The Poison Master
Ning Jing looks for Yun Xi at Yao Gui Valley. She explains that Fei Ye makes her leave Qin Mansion to protect her as he is afraid he will hurt her when his Gu Poison acts up. Furthermore, his mother will make things hard for her if she sticks around. Ning Jing also informs Yun Xi about Ming Xiang’s poor health condition. Since Yun Xi couldn’t go back to Qin Mansion, the only other way for her to help Fei Ye is to cure the poison master. Once the poison master is cured, they will be able to question him on the antidote for the Gu Poison.
However, Yun Xi’s treatment doesn’t seem to show results. She seeks Gu Qi Shao’s help with the prescription. This tells Gu Qi Shao that the poison master should be in Fei Ye’s hands. Knowing that Yun Xi is at Yao Gui Valley, Fei Ye and Xi Feng make their way there. Xi Feng meets Zhu Yu, Gu Qi Shao’s subordinate, and they seem to get along. Gu Qi Shao sees Fei Ye and Yun Xi behaving lovingly and feels dejected.
Yun Xi moves back to Qin Mansion as her help is needed to treat Ming Xiang. However, Ming Xiang is reluctant to be treated by Yun Xi. So, Yun Xi challenges her to fight for Fei Ye in order to get her to accept treatment and consume her medicine.
Investigation Into Imperial Consort Xiao
With Princess Qing Ge’s hint, the Empress Dowager quietly launches an investigation into Imperial Consort Xiao about the pastries that she often passes out to other concubines. She discovers that Imperial Consort Xiao has been lacing the pastries with a rare medicine that causes infertility and gradual health deterioration. The Emperor is livid and orders her to be confined in the cold palace as punishment.
This distresses her son. The Second Prince is already feeling the pressure after the Crown Prince provided Fei Ye with evidence of the Second Prince’s wrongdoings. Although the Emperor didn’t punish him, the Second Prince is determined to earn back his father’s total trust. He plans to do so by quickly locating the poison master. So, he sends his men to keep an eye on Gu Qi Shao who is also looking for the man.
The Poison Master Escapes
By following Yun Xi, Gu Qi Shao is able to find out the poison master’s location. Yun Xi suspects that the poison master is only pretending to be a lunatic. This is proven true when he asks her about the magical bracelet that she is wearing. It belonged to his late wife. Just then, different teams of people are coming for the poison master. Gu Qi Shao is ambushed by the Second Prince and his subordinate, Bai Su, is killed. He vowed revenge. Imperial Physician Gu knocks out the guards and Yun Xi with gas and rescues the poison master while the rest are fighting.
By the time, the Second Prince insists on checking out the place where the poison master is held, he has already disappeared. The poison master goes back to his base at Tian Keng and instructs Imperial Physician Gu to bring Yun Xi to him to verify her identity. He suspects that she is his daughter with Tian Xin.
With the failure to re-capture the poison master, the Second Prince is worried about his future. He decides to work with the Crown Prince of Northern Li to kill off his elder brother. The Emperor is still worried over the threat posed by Fei Ye and his true identity. He seeks Grand Imperial Consort Yi out during a palace visit to get her to check on Fei Ye’s background. Yun Xi has an argument with the Empress Dowager when the latter questions her about her lack of cooperation. Knowing that her mother is already dead, Yun Xi refuses to bow down to the Empress Dowager anymore. Grand Imperial Consort Yi comes to Yun Xi’s defence which leaves the Empress Dowager seething.
Episode 28 – 30 : Poisoning The Crown Prince
Grand Imperial Consort Yi is more accepting of Yun Xi as Fei Ye is happy with her. But she also finds out that Fei Ye is not her son when she secretly follows them to a temple to find them offering prayers for the late Emperor and Empress of Qin Xi. Despite knowing the truth, Grand Imperial Consort Yi lies to the Emperor that Fei Ye is her son. The Emperor and Empress Dowager are still suspicious as they know they can’t totally trust Grand Imperial Consort Yi.
Venturing Into Tian Keng
Ming Xiang is disappointed when Grand Imperial Consort Yi also seems to have a change of attitude towards Yun Xi and accepting of the marriage. She vows to double her efforts to treat Fei Ye to gain his affections. She secretly takes a look at the poison scripture kept by Fei Ye. This leads her to venture into Tian Keng to look for the poison master with a few of her father’s loyal soldiers. But she falls unconscious from the poisonous gas trap and remains at Tian Keng as the poison master tries to treat her.
Through his interactions with Yun Xi, Gu Qi Shao can guess that Fei Ye no longer has the poison master with him. He tails Yun Xi to Tian Keng. Yun Xi and Ning Jing have sneaked out of Qin Mansion to go there despite the danger. They want to explore ways to overcome the poisonous gas so that Fei Ye’s men could safely venture into the cave. However, Yun Xi is poisoned by the gas. Imperial Physician Gu keeps her alive and brings her out of the cave to be saved by Gu Qi Shao. Yun Xi is brought back to Yao Gui Valley.
The poison master orders Imperial Physician Gu to make sure Yun Xi is well. Imperial Physician Gu goes to Qin Mansion on the pretext of looking for Yun Xi to treat the Crown Prince. He informs Fei Ye that his consort is in Yao Gui Valley. They rush there and fortunately, Yun Xi’s life is not in any danger as Gu Qi Shao has been treating her. Fei Ye uses his inner qi to expel the poison from Yun Xi’s body as suggested by Imperial Physician Gu..
The Han Family At Risk
Princess Qing Ge receives orders from the Northern Li Crown Prince to kill Crown Prince Tian Mo. This is as per the agreement between the Northern Li Crown Prince and the Second Prince Tian Qing. Princess Qing Ge requests for 2 substances from Gu Qi Shao. On their own, these substances are harmless but combined together, they are potent poisons.
Princess Qing Ge makes use of the Emperor to unknowingly transfer one of the substances to his son during a visit. Crown Prince Tian Mo has already ingested the other substance earlier when Princess Qing Ge presents him with some wine. Thus, he is poisoned and he believes that it is his father’s doing. Chief Imperial Physician Han is summoned to treat Crown Prince Tian Mo. He is unable to do so and imprisoned. His whole family is also arrested.
Although Yun Xi hates her father, she also wants to help him. But Han Cong An tells Fei Ye that he doesn’t want her help. He just hopes that Fei Ye will treat Yun Xi well and takes care of the Han family. The reason he has caused Yun Xi to have a carbuncle and stopped her from marrying Fei Ye is due to a promise he made to her mother. Tian Xin had wanted Yun Xi to lead an ordinary life away from palace affairs. Han Cong An also requests Fei Ye to bring Yun Xi to see him in the prison.
Protecting Yun Xi
Han Cong An tells Yun Xi that he doesn’t want her to save him as there is no blood relation between them. As such, he doesn’t want to owe Yun Xi anything. He reveals that he is not her biological father as her mother was already pregnant by the time he married her. Therefore, Yun Xi is a reminder of his humiliation. Han Cong An’s real purpose is to stop Yun Xi from being dragged into the Crown Prince case. Otherwise, she will also be implicated and faced grave danger. But Yun Xi finds out about Han Cong An’s altruistic motive when her stepmother begs her to save the family.
The Emperor and Empress Dowager see the poisoning incident as an opportunity to erode Fei Ye’s powers if they threaten to get rid of the Han family for not being able to treat the Crown Prince and other misdemeanors. But at the same time, it gives Fei Ye a valid reason to visit Tian Keng as the cure for Crown Prince Tian Mo lies inside the cave. The cure is the blood of a unique beast.
Episode 31 – 33 : Saving The Crown Prince
Yun Xi petitions the Emperor to allow her to treat the Crown Prince in exchange for freedom for her family. Fei Ye promises the Emperor that he will move to an outpost should the treatment fails. The Emperor agrees to their conditions. But at the same time, the Emperor is arranging for Fei Ye to be killed once he emerges from Tian Keng with the cure.
The Second Prince also wants to prevent or delay Fei Ye from getting the cure for his elder brother for his own selfish reasons. Fei Ye anticipates the danger. He goes to Tian Keng with Yun Xi through a shortcut. His men set a decoy to lure their enemies into a trap. The Emperor and the Second Prince’s soldiers end up fighting each other before they decide to cooperate to stop Fei Ye. The Second Prince and his soldiers surround the inn where they thought Fei Ye and Yun Xi are staying in order to delay their mission. Crown Prince Tian Mo is expected to die within 4 days without the cure.
Getting The Beast’s Blood
Fei Ye and Yun Xi meet Gu Qi Shao who insists on tagging along to protect her. As they venture into Tian Keng, they encounter various traps. Yun Xi is separated from the group. She faces the beast but it didn’t harm her. It is the poison master’s test to confirm that Yun Xi is his daughter. As the beast is friendly towards her, she obtains its blood before it leads her to the poison master. Fei Ye arrives and together, they learned that the poison master has no antidote for the Gu Poison. Fei Ye wants to kill him for the cruelty that he has inflicted on him but stops when it is revealed that the poison master is Yun Xi’s biological father. Gu Qi Shao overhears the whole conversation.
Yun Xi decides to take the poison master to Yao Gui Valley to make him come up with a cure for Fei Ye’s Gu Poison. On the other hand, Fei Ye will rush back to the palace with the beast’s blood.
The Second Prince’s Downfall
The Second Prince thought he has succeeded to prevent Fei Ye from getting the cure. He is elated and visited his mother to tell her the happy news and that he has proof that Princess Qing Ge is collaborating with Northern Li. A maid overhears the conversation. But the Emperor has received word that the Second Prince has tried to stop Fei Ye from going to Tian Keng. Thus, he is imprisoned by the Emperor while Crown Prince Tian Mo is cured. As a result, Han Cong An and his family are also freed and allowed to return to their hometown..
When Princess Qing Ge visits the Crown Prince, she drops him a note to tell him that Imperial Consort Xiao caused his mother’s death and that the Second Prince has tried to kill him off. Angered by the revelation, the Crown Prince killed the depressed and drunk Second Prince with poisoned wine and arranged for it to be seen as a suicide.
When Imperial Consort Xiao finds out about her son’s death, she becomes mentally unstable. Imperial Physician Gu is ordered to treat her at the cold palace. DWhile he is there, Imperial Consort Xiao blurts out that Princess Qing Ge is working with Northern Li.
Fei Ye Brings Forward His Plan

Yun Xi is pushing herself and the poison master to hasten the cure for Fei Ye. She still does not regard him as her father for his cruelty. Her mother left him because she did not agree with his poison zombie experimentation on behalf of the Tian Ning Emperor. When he wanted to change his mind, he was imprisoned and forced to continue with his research.
Yun Xi’s mother met him again in prison when she was forced by the Empress Dowager to help out with the research. They decided to escape. Yun Xi’s mother ran away with Fei Ye but died in the process.
