Princess Silver (白发) is an intriguing story that tells of a woman, Rong Le, who has lost her memory. She has 3 men in her life and all of them love her dearly. If you have not watched this drama, you can check out my Princess Silver review to find out more about the plot and characters. However, if you just want to know why Rong Le’s hair turned white in the middle of the drama, you have come to the right place.
Princess Silver’s White Hair
Rong Le is loved by 3 men – Rong Qi, Fu Chou, and Wu You. With 3 options, who do you prefer to be Princess Silver’s lover? Well, in the drama, she loves Wu You although she ended up marrying Fu Chou. Moreover, Wu You and Fu Chou are enemies.
To gain an upper hand, Fu Chou used an imposter to pretend to be Rong Le to trick Wu You to surrender. He couldn’t bring himself to use the real Rong Le because he loves her. The imposter is to be fed a poison that causes much pain and then carried on a bed to the palace battleground. Wu You would then have to beg Fu Chou for the antidote. In addition to the antidote, the couple also needs to be intimate in order to expel the poison.
Unbeknown to Fu Chou, the imposter was swapped with the real Rong Le. Wu You begged Fu Chou for the antidote as expected and saved her in front of thousands of soldiers. But Rong Le stabbed Wu You while they were intimate as she was hallucinating. When she realized what she had done and fearing for Wu You’s life, she was in agony. She must have also felt humiliated with so many soldiers watching. Thus, when she rose from the bed and emerged from behind the curtains, her hair had turned snowy white. If you are wondering which episode did Rong Le’s hair turned white in the drama, you can catch it in episode 35.
Why Wu You’s Hair Turned White
Apart from Princess Silver’s white hair, Wu You’s hair also turned white later on in the drama. He did it by willingly taking a special poison to protect Rong Le. Disloyal officials framed Rong Le by manufacturing stories about a white-haired murderer. They accuse her of being a traitor. To convince his soldiers and the people that they should not fear his white-haired consort, Wu You also changed his hair color to match Rong Le’s.
However, the poison that Wu You took caused him immense pain during the process and will shorten his life by 10 years. It is a show of love and sacrifice to portray to the viewers how much he loves her.
Why Did Rong Le’s Hair Turn Black Again
Due to his mistake, Fu Chou greatly regretted what he did to Rong Le. He tried his best to make amends and one of the ways was to hunt for a rare herb that could help Rong Le regain her health and hair color. In the drama, Fu Chou risked his life to get the herb on top of a cliff. The plant also needed to be nourished with blood to keep it alive.
When Fu Chou brought the herb to Rong Le, she refused to accept it as she hated him. She didn’t want to feel indebted to Fu Chou after what he had done to her. But Wu You was unwilling to see Rong Le suffering and dying from the poison in her body. Although Fu Chou is his bitter rival politically and romantically, he took half of the medicine to convince Rong Le to take the other half. Both their hair returned to black as a result.
I think the princess’ hair color is certainly the most eye-catching detail in this drama. Just looking at the female lead’s snowy white hair in the posters will naturally pique your curiosity. So, do you think Rong Le looked good with all that white hair?
